Another Sports Legend Gone

I know, not football, but this is where most eGrizzer look, and this news deserve a thread,

Anyway, the legendary (a fully deserved label, in this case) pitcher Whitey Ford passed away last night. Whether you were a Yankee fan or a Yankee hater, you knew that Whitey was the "real deal," and then some.

The article says he drifted away watching the Yankee's win over Tampa Bay ... not a bad way to go.

A couple of aces dealing up high with Whitey and Bob Gibson leaving this week. Every sports fan should read October 1964 by David Halberstam. The two of them starred in the World Series that year and it's a fantastic read. St. Pete's pitching staff is a lot deeper.

Yep, must be a pennant race going on. Tom Seaver "called up" back in September.

Gibson/Ford/Tom Terrific would be a pretty decent top of your rotation. I'm old enough to remember when they lowered the pitching mound because these guys were so dominant.

Add Joe Morgan to that list.
Holy Cow! This is getting weird. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30100016/baseball-hall-famer-joe-morgan-dies-77
"He had struggled with various health issues in recent years including a nerve condition, a form of polyneuropathy." Looked that up ... can be very painful, apparently.

Guess the "man"ager upstairs needed to shore up his middle infield behind that ace pitching staff. Morgan was one of the best second baseman ever. Plus, he was an amazing hitter in the clutch.

No doubt about it. Heaven is building one hell of a lineup this year! Sorry to see them all go though.
RIP gentlemen!

I remember that '64 series. The nuns would bring in old black and white portable TV's so we could all watch the afternoon games.
