Pac-12 to play 7-game football slate starting in Nov

"The Pac-12 will play a seven-game conference football season beginning Nov. 6, the league announced Thursday.

The conference championship game will be played Dec. 18, with a source telling ESPN that all 12 teams will be in action that weekend.

No fans will be allowed to attend Pac-12 games taking place on campuses. That decision will be revisited in January, the conference said.

Along with daily antigen testing, athletes will take at least one PCR test per week.

In a release, the Pac-12 said men's and women's basketball can begin Nov. 25 while other winter sports can begin in line with their respective NCAA seasons. Utah athletic director Mark Harlan said other fall sports, such as cross country, soccer and volleyball, will continue to plan for a spring season."

And the MWC in Oct.

Can the Mountain West afford no fans? I'm curious, no idea about their TV deal. Plus when do the Title IX lawsuits start for the legal beagles out there?

The MWC will probably allow some limited attendance (20% ?) like a lot of other conferences. In the games we've watched, the fans lucky enough to be there seem to be trying to make up in enthusiasm what they lack in numbers. (That's from announcers who are there.) The MWC must think that and the TV revenue will be enough ... or they wouldn't do it.

As for Title IX lawsuits, I'm not sure that's even an issue. So far as I've read, schollies are still in place, as long as the student-athletes (male or female) attend classes. That's true whether or not they play any actual competitive games/matches.

Sadly, with so many parents still out of work and fewer part-time jobs, many students will be unable to attend even if they do have a scholarship (athletic or otherwise). The notion of "deferred" scholarship eligibility is very much in play.

Hey, Big Sky, anything the Pac-12 and Big Ten can do, so can you.
Bowl games, here we come!
Funny you should bring that up. Even with the last of the Power-5 conferences joining the party, there will almost certainly not be enough teams to fill all the bowl spots ... under the old rules. Their answer? Suspend the rules:

Does the prospect of a P-5 team with a 3-5 record in a bowl game get your juices flowing? Yeah, me neither. But start getting used to the notion.

On the other hand, somebody really smart at ESPN should issue an invite right now to the reigning FCS champion (that would be NDSU) to start getting ready for an appearance at the Frisco Bowl in December. (As it happens, a division of ESPN owns and operates the Frisco Bowl.) Not ever going to happen, but it sure is an interesting thought :p .

So now, literally EVERY level of football is being played, successfully, except FCS.

What a bunch of bullshit.

We can't cover game expenses with our lousy TV contract. What part of that is beyond your comprehension?

Some FCS is playing. Mostly where there are money games that cover the costs. It's not bullshit; FCS programs can't afford it. The CFL is not playing; are DII and DIII playing?

How will the Big Sky teams pay for the spring season?

They are hoping they will be able to have fans in the seats and that the covid protocols will be less expensive by then. If neither are the case, I would bet that it gets canceled.
