— Spring seasons. Teams are permitted to play up to eight games in the spring, ending on or before April 17. This would put the earliest regular season spring game on Jan. 23.

— Playoffs. The playoffs will begin the week of April 18 — meaning the first games will be April 24, most likely — and conclude May 15. In accordance with other fall sports, the field will be cut down from 16 teams to 24.

“Existing maximum contest limits and normal practice limitations apply,” the NCAA said. “Conference championship games can be added, and the potential for bowl games in the spring also remains. Conferences can start and end their seasons at their discretion, within the limits adopted by the Council. Additionally, schools applying the autonomy legislation must provide a week off at the end of the regular season and/or postseason.”

The Mountain West Conference and PAC12 conference are aggressively trying to get football going this fall and still compete for bowls and the College Football Playoff.
Late October start. I guess the good news for the FCS is they will be the big show come this spring if it comes to fruition.

“down from 16 teams to 24”

That hurts my thinker.

Any January/February games might help beef up basketball attendance with out of town folks coming in... .

If Air Force doesn't play...they don't deserve to be an Academy of our Armed Forces.

West Point and Naval Academy are fighting like hell to play a full schedule.

Um...I don't think a football team is the main purpose of a military academy.

Haslam said on the inside the den podcast today that the MEAC is planning on taking their AQ to the spring playoffs. That means there’s 11 AQ’s and 5 at-larges now. The margin for error just got even thinner.

So with the NCAA today approving this plan for post season play when would practice start? December?

In a loaded Big Sky Conference... how many Big Sky teams might make it into the playoffs? Only 5 at-large selections total this spring for the 16 team field.

I would assume at least (1) at-large from the BSC, MVC, and CAA. Now would a 3rd team in any of them get in over a second team from any of the other conferences?

Wofford and Furman from the SoCon have had some success in recent seasons. I can see an at-large from that conference. After that, a third from the MVC or BSC would not surprise me. The CAA has been down (slightly) the past couple of years, so I don't think they'd be in the running for a third spot.

If we waited to play until next fall wouldn't they all get bigger, faster and stronger, like a red shirt year?

Ok you got me, the real reason is that I don't want to sit out there in late Feb or March. God intended for us to be inside watching hoops.

With basically everyone having an additional year, I think strength and conditioning programs just came that much more important. In a 1 year timeline, what program can improve their players most from that standpoint?

I think that benefits the griz. I don’t know know that any programs have the resources (facility/EQ) or as quality of a strength coach that the griz have.
