The Hope is FCS playoffs moved to spring in some fashion...

Once the Big Sky Conference announces later this morning the conference Presidents Council voted to cancel the 2020 conference football season, with a plan to play an 8-game conference season in the spring, the hope becomes the FCS Championship will also move to the spring, but all that is still to be determined.

With the Big Sky not playing a conference season in the fall, that about does it for the rest of the FCS. Expect to see similar announcements from other conferences and schools soon with a hope for spring games.

The Big Sky presidents also voted to hold off on canceling/postponing the remaining fall sports of cross country, volleyball, and soccer. The reasoning is these sports have already had their season delayed to September 18, which buys time, and a decision on their fall championships must be made by August 21. There is still a potential these seasons will be moved.

Per Kent Haslam...
"There were a variety of reasons behind acting on football right now. Currently, per local health guidelines, very few Big Sky Conference schools could host a football game. Plus, the majority have no plans to start practices soon. Also, the NCAA guidelines for return to play regarding testing are now mandatory. Most felt like there was not a way to abide by those requirements and safely return to competition."

Commissioner Tom Wistrcill said. “We will now shift our attention to doing everything within our power to provide our football student-athletes and coaches with a conference schedule and a championship opportunity in the spring. We already have begun actively engaging our fellow FCS conferences and the NCAA to join us then for what will be a unique opportunity to return to competition and compete for an FCS championship.”

“This is an unprecedented time, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through this process,” Montana State athletic director Leon Costello said in a statement. “This decision allows our student-athletes, coaches, and staff the opportunity to prepare and play for a championship with the potential of maximizing fans in Bobcat Stadium. In honest conversations with our student-athletes, the points I heard most consistently were the importance of playing for a championship, playing in front of our fans and providing a safe environment.”

It is the logical move since I have been told repeatedly that the virus will be going away in early November.

The Frisco stadium should be able to accommodate a move to spring given there should be minimal disruptions with the FC Dallas schedule ...

I'm not sure how this will actually work, being that Covid 19 ain't going away in the Spring. We don't even know if there will be a vaccine by then, and last I read only about 48% polled said they would even take it.

Both Sammy Akem and Jace Lewis said if it was up to them they would prefer to play next fall instead of spring. But if it’s spring they will be ready to roll

Personally I think playing in the spring is a terrible idea, but it is what it is.

Personally, I think not playing this fall is a terrible idea.

Also, without fall football or perhaps even falls sports, college athletes will have less incentive to work hard to avoid the covid. More cases now aren't going to screw up the fall season. So, more socializing. And, kids who either defer going to school this fall, or who stay out of town to do their online classes, will be getting bored and looking for fun and more socializing, in their communities. Keeping college kids off or away from campus isn't going to reduce covid spread.

Will we see two FCS champions in 2021? A spring 2021 playoff champion and a Fall 2021 playoff champion? Quite possibly a lot of football happening in 2021!
Driven by the need for revenue indeed!

You're both right.

I just can't imagine an 8 game season in April/May and turn around and start playing/practicing again in August for a full 11 game (possibly more) schedule...that's a lot of damned football on a body.

That's what I'm thinking too. Player A, who is a stud gets an ACL or other major injury, then he's out for the spring and next fall.

Your "Fall 2021 playoff champion" would be decided in January 2022.

I can imagine it. Replaces spring ball; fall camp could likely start later. 80 or 90 on the roster. Regulars could be rested for the 2021 OCC games. Oops, Udub, W. Illinois, Dixie St....

Most FCS NFL candidates need a senior season to showcase and convince.

There will be a lot of injuries that don't heal in time with two seasons in one year, Just doesn't feel like a decision with the best interests of the kids in mind to me.
