MSU Just posted on their facebook site that classes will start 8/17 and the semester will conclude 11/25. Spring semester starts 1/11/2021.

This is based on guidance from the Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Higher Education. I'd imagine UM and all state schools will have a similar schedule.

It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out with regard to fall camp, playoffs, finals week, etc.

Two things:
1. Over six weeks off for winter break sounds pretty sweet; and
2. What does your username stand for? I think I might know, but I've wondered for years.

2...You're probably correct on your guess. Waaaay back when I formed the account, I was a drunk college kid and it was an inside joke with a story behind it. I should probably change it to something less hostile, but that seems like a lot of work.

Nah. Never. Gotta leave it. Is it "We Beat the [Fantastic] Griz"?

Strange that with the fight to reduce the COVID-19 risk and its timetable, they choose to start school earlier. Figure.

The thought is that transmission of the virus will decrease in warm weather, but a late fall surge is very possible (if not likely). So bump classes to take advantage of the warm weather in the hopes you'll be done (or close to it) by the time any such surge begins.

Definitely a calculated risk, but one which may make more sense in a state like Montana (given current trends, anyways).

That and avoiding thanksgiving travel

so why would the transmission decrease in Montana warmer weather when other places that have much warmer weather than we do still have an issue? I guess I they think that we will be outside the normal cold and flu season during that time but not so sure covid19 is on the same trajectory. hope so never the less.

Other viruses somewhat related to SARS-CoV-2 become less easily transmitted in warmer, wetter weather. It's by no means guaranteed, but that is their thought process.
