Hauck thinks very highly of Hurlburt and Jacob McGourin

The way BH gushed over McGourin something like "ready to play now" I would guess he gets the nod

I love this recruit! He's a contributor day 1 unless things change drastically on the DL. Agree that we may have our pass rushers in this class. I didn't play DE, or OLB, so my question is which side is better for him to be on based on using hands and rushing the passer? I know there are a ton of different moves, but a lot have to do with hand work and counter use. Is there a better side? Either way, I'd hate to be the tackle having to block that stud!

Wow, damn nice pull for a hs kid.

My guess is he can out pull most of our current team sooo. This kid is going to be a stud for the Griz.
I am sure this is true.
He is approaching 2.5X body weight deadlift. That is considered elite by powerlifting standards, especially for someone so young. I personally think deadlift is the most important lift for most athletes especially LB's. The exception might be the squat for OL. Collisions with someone that can run and who's back and hamstrings can handle a 500+ DL is like hitting a brick wall. This kid will be a horse at LB or DE.

If you watch his video, he understands leverage and how to use it. He's had to his whole life to compete, now he's taking it to another level dominating. Very excited to see him in Griz colors. One of the best things about this is that players respond to someone like him, natural leader by example.

That is a lot of weight. I did 505 at Hellgate in 1979, once before and once after major knee surgery. I was 6’ and 195 at the time. Never could bench over 295. Bummer
Not bragging, just reminiscing out loud.

Good question on where to use him.

From his commitment highlights, he has his right hand and it's hard to tell just how much he's able to use his left arm. A lot of his moves are swim/ducking the shoulder or swatting the other players hands away. In the highlights, he relies on his agility and quickness to just avoid and get around blockers, as well. Almost all the highlights are from the LB position so there's nothing really there to tell what his initial strike is like from the line of scrimmage. The initial strike is so important on the line at the DI level for holding the edge on run plays and getting the OL off balanced to perform additional pass rush moves. If I only had my right hand to strike with, I think I would prefer the left end so that I could still keep my shoulders parallel to the line of scrimmage when making that punch. Then again, if you're getting your shoulders turned back inside on the initial strike that probably means you beat the OL off the line anyways.

Maybe he could develop like a Tyrone Holmes sprinter stance and be a pass rush specialist. He seems to excel at LB, though, so why change a good thing?

Those were exactly what I was seeing as well, which is why I asked the question. I agree with that and figure him as an outside lb. can’t imagine he won’t rush the passer with that ability though.

i think his quickness, size and strength makes him and ideal pass rusher at d/e....probably left d/e , so that he can maintain the edge and have his longest arm free to do so...just my thoughts...

He is one of the best recruits in the history of UM....regardless how his career goes. Heart, toughness, never quit attitude. I true inspiration.

This video better be on the big screen at game time in Washington Grizzly stadium. What an inspiration! This young man is the epitome of triumph! Can hardly wait to watch him play! Lot of Offenses out there that do not want to go up against' a player like this. God Bless him!
