Ochs wants to attend school with quarter system
Associated Press

BOULDER, Colo. -- The University of Washington has been given permission to talk with former Colorado quarterback Craig Ochs, who quit the Buffaloes and left school last month.

Ochs' football future appeared in jeopardy after he suffered his third concussion in 13 months in the first half of a victory Sept. 7 over San Diego State.

Ochs has already talked with the University of Montana about transferring there.

Ochs and his father met briefly with coach Gary Barnett and his staff Sept. 23. Ochs left a letter in his teammates' lockers to inform them that he was leaving. Barnett said last week he was stunned by Ochs' plan to leave.

Athletic director Dick Tharp said he rejected a request to allow Ochs to speak "to all five Pacific-10 Conference schools on the quarter system (Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Washington and Stanford).''

Tharp said he could not grant a blanket clearance but approved the Washington request after verifying with the Huskies that they had not approached Ochs while he was still playing at Colorado.

Ochs' desire to attend a school on a quarter system may indicate he wants to return to school immediately. He is a junior but could have two more years of playing time if he enrolls immediately at another school.

Washington coach Rick Neuheisel, while coaching at Colorado, spent considerable effort on recruiting Ochs.

Wow, the story thickens.

I think this kid needs to make a decision. He'll start p*ssin off the teams he's contacted if he's wishy washy about where he wants to go. Granted, its a big decision for him, but he needs to make some decisions... pronto.
