2026 Spring/Summer Transfers (3) Verbals, (1) Offers

Do grades even matter anymore? They should but not sure they do. When is the last time we heard about a college “student athlete” being suspended for academic reasons? Bear in mind I don’t watch that dish rag known as espn.
Absolutely they do. I don't know all of them off of the top of my head, but there have been multiple penalties for academics in the past few years. Akron just got a post season ban, for one.

They also matter a lot to the coaches at Montana, who receive fairly significant bonuses based on the team's GPA.

I know one thing coaches do look at with kids with borderline GPA’s are their last couple years of high school. If they are on an upward trajectory they take that into consideration.

How does that compare with MSU in terms of Justin Lamson giving up a Stanford degree to play FCS football?
Did a little google sleuthing, apparently he has his Stanford degree along with an interesting family background. Mother (Lisa) was a former 49s cheerleader, father (Jeff) was sentenced in 1999 to 3.5 yrs for sex crimes committed while he was a high school math teacher/coach, and was also sentenced in to 2.5 years in 2015 for embezzling $400k from his employer. 😱

What Stanford degree did he attain in 1.5 years at the school?
