Joining the Mountain West would run an $8MM - $9MM annual deficit - can we overcome that?

Millions? Here is the current framework:

Top football & basketball brands $2–5 million Strong brands but not elite $1–3 million.
Large fanbases + strong TV exposure.

Mid‑majors $250K–$1 million
Smaller markets but still meaningful revenue.

Low‑major D‑I programs $100K–$500K
Depends heavily on local sponsors.

These annual ranges come from industry projections and legal/financial analysis of the new rule.

New Mexico is where? What about Montana?

I'll say it again - this is NOT the golden goose you are looking for.
UNLV received a 11-million dollar deal. Are you saying the Griz sports including football are low mid major and has no appeal for a modest jersey patch deal. Will be interesting to see what Montana State is able to get. This is where having no president and somewhat of a lame duck AD will hurt.

I bet the department would gladly welcome 100k-500k (or whatever another A.I. source says), though. Dictating our own terms on this thing would be nice. Allowing the conference to tell us what to do in this instance seems very un-Montanan to me. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, at best.

Yeah, I read that and thought the same. In FB, we play in the silver bracket. If/when FBS splits (because it currently has roughly the same number of teams as it did when DI split in 1978), we will be in the bronze bracket.

In MBB, the BSC has ONE NCAA Tournament win in the last quarter century (2006 UM). Same with WBB (2012 ISU).

I'd say that's firmly within the low-major camp.

Can't argue with that.

Not suggesting it isn't worth doing...just is not the golden ticket etc...
🤝Agreed. I think it's advisable to control our own destiny on the jersey ads, even if it means telling the BSC to kindly fuck off. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't recent reports indicate that our current leadership is going to let the BSC dictate what we can do with jersey ads?

I think Wistrcel was looking to get a conference wide sponsor but believe that didn't work out and deferred to each school.

Doesn't anyone know how the MVFC is doing/adjusting with the loss of NDSU?

Has there ever been discussion of creating a FCS super-conference? Maybe a conference that would strong enough as a whole to move up when things shake out with the FBS behemoths

I don't see any benefit to a FCS super-conference. Even when things shake out, I think it would existing conferences adding as opposed to them agreeing to accept an entire FCS conference.

Realignment in the west continues, UC Santa Barbara is leaving the Big West for the WCC starting in 2027. UC Irvine is also looking at the MWC or WCC.

Thew MWC would be stupid to take anymore non-Football playing schools. They already have Grand Canyon and UC Davis, they don't need Irvine.
UC Davis is planning on brining their football program to the MWC in next 2 years, that’s what they telling recruits anyway. It will be a stronger MBB conference that’s where the money will be with multiple bids. UNLV, Grand Canyon, Hawaii, New Mexico, Nevada and North Dakota State.

NDSU's Football only. Their Basketball program is not moving to the MWC.

That's correct for the time being, once the NCAA votes to eliminate the waiting/transitioning period from FCS to FBS you will see the PAC and MWC add a few teams and sports only teams. Without NDSU, the MWC is building a strong MBB conference.

SDSU football only to the MWC could be imminent which would make them need to add another non football school.
Wouldn't surprise me with SDSU now that NDSU moved. North Dakota and Tarlington State are also pushing to move to FBS, with limited spots open in realignment you can't afford to wait around. I think UM football should stay FCS and rest of the sports move to the MWC. You have a better chance of making money/revenue with MBB and WBB in the MWC than the BSC.
