Joining the Mountain West would run an $8MM - $9MM annual deficit - can we overcome that?

If you want to move up, you need to do what NDSU fans did and stop attending games. I'm not saying it's what should be done but it's what finally got the NDSU AD to take notice and do something.

One man's "visionary" is another man's sucker
If UM hired someone with a little Luke Wood in him, that wouldn’t be a bad thing for UM. Now obviously we can’t hire somebody who’s full blown Luke Wood and willing to bankrupt the university just to prove a point, but somebody who sees value in taking your university to the highest level and willing to work on a move up strategy behind the scenes would be welcomed!

Actually, what you advocate is more of the take UM to bankruptcy thing.

Again, as others have stated, why do you think UM and its leadership haven't already considered all of the alternatives and possibilities? Do you really think the leadership just sits around and thinks how can we keep UM small and behind the times? Try interacting and getting to know with some of the leadership. You would likely find that they are miles ahead of where you are on this.

We had that guy once in AD Wayne Hogan. Dennison neutralized him and ran him off.

Does anyone - and I mean anyone - truly believe that sewing town pump patches on the Griz uniforms = move-up capable?

Really?

Some of you guys need to take a looooong walk and touch some grass.

Let me say it slowly - there are not enough patches in the world to generate the perpetual money required to move up.
Why are you or AD looking at town pump, someone mentioned the owner of golden knights NHL and owner of resort in whitefish is a UM grad or kids played football for um. That would be a good starting point for patches, nil and facilities funding.

Took a stab at what Montana would need to do to move up, posted it the other day, and already others have pointed out that my numbers on expenses might be low as I ran a scenario of Montana keeping all other sports in the Big Sky, or maybe moving to the Summit or WAC - which might not be possible. For a football only move the costs associated with the move up in terms of travel, salaries, staff, scholarships, and adding 2 or 3 more sports to meet the FBS requirement.

What a move up would hinge on would be:

- Student athletic fees seeing a large increase
- Fans paying more for tickets + more focus on premium pricing
- State financial support financially and also raising the hard cap of $1.5MM in revenue share that UM/MSU are held to
- 2 high dollar road guarantee games per year for the first 5 years (so less home games)
- Some big donor help for the first year hit of nearly $16MM

How much will it cost to expand Wa-griz and Bobcat stadium to fit 50 thousand people?

Wouldn't be to sure on this, last interview Haslam did about 2 months ago he said his approach was just to wait and see what happens with realignment and the P4 forming their own league. While NDSU, Sac St, Tarleton State, North Dakota are all positioning themselves for the next wave of realignment. Especially now that the NCAA D1 board recommended that the wait time (FCS-FBS) to be eligible for bowls and CFP be removed. The vote is in June.
