For those who missed the presser, here is a summary:

MT football is in great shape

Last 3 years we finished 2, 3, and 10 in the nation

Finished in front of gold standard Ndsu last two years

Amazing run here in Missoula on and off the field. Me and my family poured ourselves into this program and university

Dealing w what college football has become is not enjoyable. It’s just not as enjoyable anymore.

Perfect time to turn this over to my great friend. I brought him here for a reason. I feel great about who this is going to and the shape the program is in

I’m not sure what retirement looks like. Not sure if my next plans. Not sure what I want to do and if it includes football. I do know that I don’t want to be a head coach. That allure is gone.

Taking questions now….

- was a very hard decision
- knew it was time once it wasn’t as enjoyable to come to the office anymore
- I’ve enjoyed my job. We’ve had a lot of fun. We have had a lot of wins. I’m proud of the 3.2 team GPA and that all our kids graduate
- I’ll miss practice and competing with the guys I love
- Coach Kennedy amazing coach. Been trying to get him here for a while. Everyone loves Coach K and he’s just a great dude
- dealing with agents and the lack of forward thinking by young people with this portal is something I got tired of

Haslam now:

- important to keep the staff and team together
- felt that Coach K was the best person to do that and keep that continuity
- learned about this directly from Bobby at 8 pm last night and he explained that same things with me that he shared her
- Jimmy M will have some additional duties to pick up
- Coach K will not have an interim attached and we will evaluate at end of season like we always do

BH is being very honest about his thoughts on the current condition of college football, and he has every right to do that. I think many of us agree that was what was supposed to be rule changes to allow college players to simply get paid reasonable amounts for their name and likeness has become an absolute disaster.

And yet, while Bobby is leaving, UM football remains and has to be able to continue in the current climate. So he is putting Haslam in a bit of a difficult position because Kent has to bring positivity and enthusiasm going forward. I think he's doing a good job with it. Supposed to be a press conference tomorrow to introduce Kennedy so that will be an interesting watch as well.

Does anyone else find it ironic that Bobby Hauck is blaming the current state of college football for his retirement but he chose to work the portal harder than most? He could have focused more on high school recruiting and player development and limited the portal additions but he chose to build a lot of the roster through the portal. That was an active choice and not something that was forced.

I look at it this way. Bobby told Kent at 8pm last night. Then this morning, barely 12 hours later, they announce the new head coach and all this. And slept. You're telling me the university of Montana goes through a coaching hire for the #1 revenue generating sport in just that time. I have to belive this probably forced them into a corner. If you go through a 2 week coaching search, and all the while you maybe have kids enter the transfer portal in 5 days and starting to get picked off, what other option do you have? So yeah, unless its another semifinal or better finish next year, I do wonder if this is a one year thing.

So Bobby picked the next head coach. Not Haslim. No way this sticks more than a year?
Unfortunately there were no options now that its February and the music already stopped. Coach Kennedy's resume is very flat as nothing more than a career WR position coach. That's all I see on his profile. No OC/DC or even HC experience at another school.

It should be based on more than just the results on the field.

Your comment shows that you are clueless about college football. Urban Meyer and Curt Cignetti were just position coaches before becoming a head coach.

Just because he worked to adapt to the new system doesn't mean he liked the new system.

You aware that Cignetti was a HC at smaller schools like IUP, Elon and JMU before arriving at Indiana? You know that right? Montana is a big FCS program that warrants a guy with a little more proven executive experience that a HC or OC/DC position would provide. I hope I'm wrong, but nobody promoting him to OC/DC during all this time is worrisome.
