Soccer Citowicki leaving for Wazzu?

Been some misinformation in here. Coaches have all been offered 3-5 year contracts. Base salary is just under 100k with ability to earn around 150k. They are shocked first candidate didn’t accept. They haven’t offered every candidate that was on campus. Have another on campus interview this week.
What are the incentives to reach 150k are they even achievable at this stage of the team. Did AD get any feedback from the candidates it’s very odd that 3 coaches take time and fly to Missoula and all 3 turned down the job.

What is the strategy to recruit players for 2026, still need players, season starts in 6 months and the main recruiting showcases left are very limited.

The assistant coaches salary is the problem who can offord to move to Missoula and make 50k, between taxes and housing you only have 30k left.

Weber - Offered, turned down.
Cavallo - Offered, turned down.
Ljubicic - Not offered.
Philips - Withdrew, would have been offered.
Thanks, something is very odd, what was the feedback from the coaches to the AD or hiring committee to have your top 2 candidates turn down the job is strange. Did negotiations fall through if so why, what were points that the AD couldn’t close the deal. Why did Washburn withdraw his name.

Are you wasting your time bringing in a new candidate with no real chances of him/her accepting the position.

Is there any talks of going back to Weber to renegotiate

There’s 9 folks on the committee. Comes down to Kent and Jean. Seems like committee members don’t have much input. Communication is lacking because J wasn’t even aware Davey withdrew his name.
At this point the AD and Jean need to be embarrassed. Hope there GSA get together was fruitful. There is a list of names that should of been on your list or at least vetted. Minnesota State University HC and/or Assistant Coach, Colorado Mesa HC, Oregon Assistant coach, UC Davis Assistant coach. Regis University assistant coach, he has ties to Colorado Rush ECNL for recruiting.

Again there is alot of D2 coaches that don't want D1 and everything that comes with it. Many D1 coaches who go D2 say there overall quaiity of life and mental health improves dramatically.

I get what your saying but were these coaches vetted, were they considered at all, it seems since Weber and Cavallo said no there is no clear strategy. Let's go after a coach in Kansas that has no ties to the PNW or MT West and no ties to Montana's recruiting footprint with ECNL clubs in CA/WA/OR, ID. It doesn't make sense.

I get it, but its not like Chris had a bunch of those ties either when he first came in. Being friends with clubs coaches doesn't get you players, so recruiting ties only get you so far.

Totally not true, complete opposite, if this is the thinking of the AD and Jean they need a wake up call. Club coaches and club recruiting coordinators who are typically college coaches can play a big factor in where players end up. They know which programs, ADs and coaches to avoid, who have bad reputations, which schools, college coaches treat their players right.

Hopefully the offer / package is evolving based on the responses so far....otherwise we'll see more of the same. And if the package does change...I would hope they would go back to prior candidates...

Cavallo turned it down. Said he couldn’t leave his current school after 1 year. His dog is named Missoula. So they were kinda shocked.

Boise AC wasn’t offered the job. Interview was not good.

Davey withdrew before an offer could be made. Wife didn’t want to move to Montana.

With the state of the current roster, I think we need someone who can recruit nationally, maybe even internationally.
Yes, you need both, hence needing an experienced coach with a recruiting network at the club level. There have been several players and coaches including international players that have reached out to coach J that are interested in playing for the Griz. Maybe the interim tag and not knowing who the coach will be is having an effect on signing players.

Not true, Boise ACH was offered the position.

Come on Haff, eGriz is no place for actual information.

Interesting. Earlier posts said Cavallo turned down due to $$ and he got a bump at his current school. If his reason was about not wanting to leave his school after 1 year...why would he even make the trip?

You make the trip to get the bump. Sadly its how the athletic admin world works, instead of increasing you because you deserve it. I'm thinking Davey Philips did the same thing to Washburn.
