Soccer Citowicki leaving for Wazzu?

I'm not bitter that he moved on to WSU. If he had been fixing to move on and take a bigger job, that was 100 percent his decision and I respect that. But what really stunned me was many players from UM following him to WSU, and that is what truly decimated this program.

Now, the process of hiring a new coach just keeps dragging on with no end in sight. That cannot be good for this program, especially for those that stayed and for those recruits still considering UM. It's one thing for a school to take their time to find the right person for the job, but it's another when the decision makers can't seem to make up their mind.
I can see being stunned/shocked etc. with how many players went, but like I said some seem bitter and angry about it. Why wouldn’t a coach want to take players he knows and trusts to put his team together? But with 15 WSU going in the portal, it makes sense…

Admin should have taken it all more seriously and sold themselves to the coaches they wanted… sounds like they thought they were the prize and didn’t address the potential coaches concerns.

It was the way he presented it to the players. It has been covered in this thread. It is bullying, and he knew he held all the cards.

Most of those players, especially those that were close to graduation would have preferred to stay. Lucie was the only one willing to stand up to him. She still may end up transferring but she showed that she is not a pawn.

Hope Lucie stays, she's a good player could use her leadership this year.

Totally agree. Plus he recruits in totally different environments, where Montana goes to ECNL showcases Washburn goes to more local/regional non ECNL so talent level is less. He also has no recruiting connections to the Pacific Northwest.

Can anyone find out why BSU coach said no, what was the major discrepancy. Is the AD splitting hairs here.

It's Michigan and this is Montana. You don't turn down that job.
I agree but my point is the Michigan AD identified her top candidate and didn't let him away over something trivial as which is rumored with the MT AD

She’s staying for her bf.
And for academics. She was willing to go for the soccer; but in the end decided it wasn't the right move for her, which I totally respect.

As far as the girls who moved to WSU, I am friends with several of the moms and my daughter close with some of the players that went. Haven't heard any regrets... of course many of them would have loved to stay as is at the Griz, but that wasn't an option as Chris was leaving; so they were going to be under massive change regardless.

Why not go to a school that financial supports the goals of your soccer teams and feeds you amazing meals several days a week?

It’s the constant gas lighting. Let’s be honest it was his team. He owned the lineup. He was winning. I wouldn’t expect him to make to many changes but it was the constant gaslighting that was the issue. Even when he would talk to us after games and at restaurants.

She had advocates in the program. Both J and Ash had her back and tried to get him to play her. In games Ash would tell him to put her in when some if the othered were struggling.

In meetings with her he would tell her she is not aggressive enough. When u see the practice film she was doing a great job and was very aggressive. Ash giving her chest bumps after great assists and goals. It was an easy out for him to gaslight her and cut her. She does not do a great job advocating for herself and that is probably what held her back.

I don’t feel that J is the same way. In fact had she know what was going to go down she probably would have come back. She was asked to but had already committed to another program. The program will be in better shape without him.

They do need to make improvements. The facilities are probably the worst in the big sky. Way worse than any program she visited.

J is a good dude. I would trust my kid with him.
Wait… as a parent of a college soccer player, you’re reviewed practice film? That’s a choice.

Since it’s now clear your daughter is a forward, I’m genuinely curious. Which forward do you believe she should have taken minutes from?

Bentler: 4 goals, 3 assists
Slater: 4 goals, 1 assist
Brisendine: 5 goals, 5 assists
Seelhoff: 7 goals, 6 assists

I can already hear the response. “Well, they needed playing time to produce those numbers.” And that’s true. Development does require minutes.

So let’s look at efficiency instead of emotion.

Bentler averaged a goal or assist every 115 minutes.
Slater averaged a goal or assist every 70 minutes.
Brisendine averaged a goal or assist every 79 minutes.
Seelhoff averaged a goal or assist every 55 minutes.

This is the part that often gets overlooked. When parents argue their child should be playing more, they are also arguing that someone else should be playing less. That’s not hypothetical. That’s how substitutions work. And its up to subs to come in and make a difference being there (not just give the starter a chance to rest).

It’s great your daughter is headed to a program where her ability may earn her significant minutes. But based on the production and efficiency of the players listed above (and the fact that the team won two championships), it’s hard to make a compelling case that she should have played more this Fall.

OK back to the topic. Anyone know when Davey Philips is on campus this week? Has anyone else been on campus this week? Any other names being spoken about?

We did review film as we were building highlights when she went into the portal.

Very excited for her in her new program. It is what it is now. I’m glad she moved on. The question was asked and I answered on my opinion based on what I have heard from my kid and other parents. One of the main things I have been pointing out on this forum is Chris’s character is not as awesome as some feel. He won. He also damaged girls by playing head games with them by gaslighting. Even starters feel that he played head games with them. Look how he treated Bentler for the last two years. She really only got her shot again when Chloe went down. The other point is that having seen other schools facilities Montana has a long ways to go.

Look I guess Chris didn’t appreciate her skill set. The film looked good from practice. Chris owns the lineup and knowing my kid she does not advocate for herself very well. She sees that she needs to do that now so it was a good learning experience.

I think the remaining players and the cut players have sour grapes and will not be fans of Chris going forward because of the way he cut girls then left a two weeks later. He also didn’t set up the girls he was cutting for success by not letting them know Until 2 days after the portal opened. For that reason alone I lost respect for him. In a year that like this with 1500 girls entering and only 450 getting picked up he went out of his way to screw them over. I’m grateful that every one of them landed in a better situation. They are all good players.

I’m done talking about Chris. I hope for the best for the rest of those girls at Montana. They are all great players and really good people. Montana really needs to invest in both a coach and facilities or they will end up at the bottom of the league for years.

He heard from other coaches (Word Gets Around) that AD only offering 1-2 year contract and decided not to come.
