IU 38-3 Over the Tide

Fire any head coach who runs a 3-3-5 in the FBS playoffs. Oh, wait a minute…
What would you run instead of the 3-3-5 and is it not an alignment they already use more than the 3-3-5? No one is running grandpa’s defense anymore, it gets torched against the spread. There are only 2 alignments anyone is using against modern college offenses. Alabama and Georgia both play the other one (4-2-5) more often than the 3-3-5, but they do still use the 3-3-5.

3-3-5 is not the base defense. Period. Grandpas defense appears to be getting it done for MSU. There isn’t a single team in the FBS playoffs running a 3-3-5 and they have players to pull it off - if it was actually effective. It isn’t. Run a variation of 3-3-5 on occasion. Yeah, it happens. There are also teams running a 4-2-5 that shifts to almost a 5-1-5. So what. It’s not the base defense and the personnel on the D line are big.

MSU and the vast majority of FBS teams primarily use the 4-2-5. I wrote a post maybe a week ago on why that could be a good alignment to use instead of the 3-3-5. Most teams shift into other fronts depending on the offense they are facing but those 2 are the only ones being used against spread offenses.

Will DeBoer lose his job? A lot of posters think Bobby should after a 13-2 campaign. Just wanna hear people's vibe on this one. There's gonna be a "bring Saban back" campaign starting now.
Probably won’t be fired since he won the iron bowl against his in-state rival. If he lost that game would have been gone.

If Georgia loses tonight to a team they beat earlier in the season, in a semifinal game, and Kirby Smart is 12-2 (not 13-2), should Smart be fired? Miss. St. is in Georgia's backyard. And, as you know, backyard is a really big deal and open factor.
Smart gets a pass because he, unlike Hauck, is a multiple time national championship winning coach. Smart and Hauck shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same sentence.

No, shouldn't get a pass. Would only be 12-2 with a loss tonight. Letting Miss St take it to them now. By a D2 QB, no less. Goofing up my 50 yard line Fiesta Bowl tickets for family, who are all Georgia fans. He should be replaced right now, before the game is over. Kirby gave away a TD when he went for it on 4th down from about his 30. He's won before; he should how to win every time. Bobby is still learning.

Would the 12-2 record and losing to Ole Miss in the playoffs be the only reason you think he should be replaced?

Nice Hip Drop tackles and injury to the leading Georgia RB. Refs, call the penalty. You are letting guys get hurt. Stop the Hip Drop.

If you knew football, you would know backyard refers to your recruiting territory and is usually limited to your state. Georgia has dominated their backyard ever since Kirby Smart arrived, and they might have the most fertile backyard in the nation when it comes to football talent.
