To Nick and Jack

To me, i don’t care where the players come from. Jones vs Fonoti? One plays, one will be a focus next year. Both excellent. To me, the deficiencies on the lines has always been telling. I’ve said before, the in state kids that they must do better with are line players. Big Montana boys that are tough and hard working. Not that the 3* recruits can’t be, but you can’t teach Montana tough. Also…teams have figured out the 3-3-5. You can absolutely run a 3-4 or 4-3 and still pressure and create matchup issues. This defense needs at least 2 lockdown CB to work, Plus someone to eat up multiple blockers on the interior for it to be effective full time. Also, having a lead helps so teams don’t power run against it. The scheme is very 2015 and the game has evolved. Just my $37 worth.

I would also like to edit that of course it would be fantastic to get all of the top kids in MT, but not definitive on me being a fan.
Bobby isn’t sure if he wants a modern offense or the 2009 version. He’s failing at both right now. Bobby does a good job in some areas. There are smarter and younger coaches now that are out coaching and out hustling him.

We have really good players from Montana, but not all can play right away. We need to start developing talent not trying to buy it. We are using the portal the complete opposite way good teams use it.

the offense was good this year, like record-breaking good. a lot of the key players joined the griz out of high school and were 'developed'. look at the patience hauck had with ah yat, sticking with him his freshman year(s), even when he was clearly sorting out how to be an fcs level qb. it paid off.

I agree with AZDoc. The Griz need heavier DTs & NTs with lockdown corners to work the 3-3-5 in today's FCS. The Griz can continue to recruit all the 3* hybrid LB, DB & Safeties they want but need heavier athletic DL to be successful in the playoffs.

To me the Griz don't need a change of the HC but a change on who & what we recruit. We also need a change in our basic defensive line strategy.

A short supply of top level corners, or defensive linemen(s) & nose tackle(s) will limit the Griz success in playoffs but not matter during the regular season of play.

No matter what happens with personnel in 2026 I will still be an fan going forward.

We just got beat twice in one year by the Cats. It's time to take the people who are giving constructive criticism seriously and not disparage them. If you can't tell the difference between constructive criticism and "bitching and whining by smug guys", you are in the way of the Griz winning a national championship.
and who of any importance listens to this 'constructive criticism?'. and if we are going that route, let me give schmidt some constructive criticism: take action that will help the griz improve. complaining on a podcast is just flapping your jaws. volunteer to help the s/c coach somehow. or, just tell your criticism directly to those you are criticizing, no to a bunch of old guys listening to a podcast.

if only Ah Yat could block for Ah Yat. One players development isn’t a great sample size. Look at the lines compared to the cats. Not close. Ah Yat is the best QB. Our offense is vanilla when up against good defenses and even worse when conditions aren’t 50 and sunny with no wind.

I think the criticism by Schmidt through his podcast gets back to those who matter, one way or another. The podcast is for consumption as entertainment by us fans but is really directed to those who matter for constructive criticism.

do you understand the term 'for example'? and what does the weather have to do with strength and conditioning?

No shit! Ah Yat played at an amazing level this year. Glad to have him for two more years.

they are going to care about as much about his criticism of them as he cares about mine of him.

The Griz will win/lose future championships based on the players on the LOS. We need to jell down the OL and rebuild the DL while making sure we have a continual supply of good CBs.

Why we can't seem to find those big DT and NT that will help out the 3-3-5?

I am old enough to remember Alex and how he completely changed the 3-3-5

Is it that much easier to change to a 4-x-x and find bodies?

When boosters with money finally get sick of losing games like this they want answers. Andrew gives credible answers. They see Haucks attitude with the media and the way he treats them when they ask questions. They see that the best of the in-state players don't want to play for him. They see the priority of the coach is chasing flashy objects in the portal rather than investing in project in-state players.
I think it's a little bit of bad form for Andrew to claim he was right because the griz lost this game. The griz could have very well won this game but that doesn't change the facts about the direction of the griz program contrasted along side of the cats.
Hauck needs to change his attitude towards recruiting and that means making kids want to come and play for him. Any objecive outside observer comparing his actions to Vigen would choose Vigen every time. They know they have a chance to rise through the development ranks and eventually play in the next man up philosophy. Haucks team gets 60 new shinny objects a year and they try to fit the scheme to who they have currently attracted.

The entire reason the 3-3-5 exists is because Rocky long supposedly couldn’t find big d linemen and had to design a defense that he could utilize the undersized d linemen that he had. Bobby has taken that to heart. Don’t expect any changes.

You don't find those bodies, you develop them.
