James Madison

Defeatism and apathy at its finest… the Griz would be competing in a G5 conference for a shot at the CFP just like the others currently vying for that spot. Yours is the stance that has led the UM down the path that has led to its current state. Apathy, an entrenchment of the status quo, and an unwillingness to take risks, these are the hallmarks of a program spinning its wheels
This is adult-onset fetal alcohol syndrome at it's finest.

The Griz aren't winning the Big Sigh conference with any degree of regularity. In what possible permutation of delusional fantasy does that level of performance translate to winning a G5 conference? And then being better in the rankings than any other G5 conference champ?

Do you just expect that we move up and are instantly going to be successful? Despite not being dominant at an objectively lower level of competition?

You’re missing the point. It’s not worth arguing. Our opinions apparently differ, and that’s fine. This will be my last response.

That’s fickle. And what did I say that was wrong? The Griz have participated in just one championship game in the last 15 years. We have not by your logic, “competed for a championship” save that one glorious year in 2023. You cannot say that JMU wouldn’t be competing for a championship if they made the CFP and then in the same breath assert that it’s otherwise for the Griz in the FCS playoffs…. That’s called cognitive dissonance
You are full of shit. I ain’t fickle about anything and UM is competitive in FCS nearly every year. UM isn’t moving up, the economic reality will not justify it. And for every JMU or Boise State that play well but have no chance to compete for a FBS championship, there are ten Idahos that move up and get slaughtered. I am thankful for what UM has built.

How am I full of shit? I didn’t say that the Griz weren’t competitive every year. I said that by your logic the Griz have not been competing for championships for 15 years, which is the logical equivalent of your assertion that JMU would not be competing for a championship were it to make the CFP. So please, enlighten me. How am I full of shit?

And yes, you are certainly fickle if you’d immediately give up your season tickets because the team moved up. But I’d encourage you to do so, since someone less fickle would snatch them up 👍

HGG: Both you and Everett are full of it. You called me fickle, but you have no idea. JMU is not competing for the FBS championship and never will. UM is not moving up and would get clobbered if it tried, much like many other programs without resources. So that pretty much explains it, Einstein.

Serious question: Do you support all of UM's athletic programs falling down to DII so they can compete for a "national" title? Basketball, do you want them in the NCAA tournament, or playing for a DII "national" championship? How about soccer? Playing UW tough in an NCAA match, or facing Eastern Oregon in a DII playoff match? Lady GRIZ: NCAA dancing, or playing Central Connecticut in round one of the DII playoffs?

I just don't get the small minded thought of so many GRIZ fans. Football is one of our strongest progrmas, and the only one where we're content to play "JV"

I called you fickle because you said you’d give up your season tickets if the Griz moved up. Many teams have moved up recently and had success. Even lowly Missouri state moved up and had success. The defeatist attitude you have on the prospect of a move up is unwarranted. We have a team right now in its current iteration that would be upper half of the MWC, which are the peers I’d like to see our team competing with. I’m not attacking you when I say you’re being fickle, it’s an honest observation of your attitude toward the football team and athletic department should it aspire to take the next step in its evolution.

By your thinking, Central Connecticut State was competing for the FCS championship. But they weren’t. Making the playoffs doesn’t make you competitive. Ditto for Harvard.

Like I said, you are full of shit. I never said I would quit cheering for UM or quit attending UM games. I just won’t buy season tickets. Where I come from, calling someone fickle is an insult.

So if neither of those schools was competing for a National Championship, does that mean that UM hasn't really been doing so either over the past 15 years except for a couple seasons?

I apologize for responding to your first post. If you want to get in silly fights, take on Hoops or Glacier. I am an alum and support the university financially. Sports are only a part of what UM is about. And nowhere close to the most important part. If I don’t pay for season tickets, I will contribute more to Excellence Fund.

Everett, please dislike this post.
