Unbelievable...eGriz is now down to comparing the physical appearance of (Real? Theoretical? Imaginary?) mates. If that doesn't convince you of someone's football knowledge, whatever will? \s

Meanwhile, back here on planet Earth, what does everyone think of the line (betting, offensive, or defensive), weather, teams' health, or matchups in the, oh, I don't know, let's just say, upcoming game? (Or is that just too close to the supposed actual subject matter on an ostensibly football-related message board?)

When you get on a fan message board and crow about being some stud athlete, call out a genuine high end DivI arhlete for being old and not playing against competition, it reeks of BS. He called you a pussy because it's almost certainly true.

They aren't the same at all. Similar, yes. Linebacker has completely different responsibilities in Cover 2 compared to 2 deep. The game has evolved to where the linebackers now have to play in coverage. The Whole purpose of the 2 deep zone was for corners to be able to play the run hard with the linebackers.

The original point was that the cover 2 defense didn't drop out of the sky in the last few years. Someone that played or coached in the 70s is perfectly capable of understanding the cover 2. Yes, there are subtle differences in LB and CB responsibility, and you are essentially describing the Tampa 2 version of it, but the cover 2 defense came from the 2 deep zone.

It's a relatively easy scheme to understand. Cover 2 still has the linebacker dropping into coverage, he's just responsible for hook/curl... In tampa 2 Linebacker is responsible for inside seam route (much deeper drop). I will agree that the 2 deep was the father to the Cover 2. Linebackers and corner responsibilities from the 2 deep zone were essentially run stoppers with only the corner jamming the receiver. pretty easy for a corner. Now corners and linebackers have multiple responsibilities in these schemes. Modern offenses made things harder on defenses.
 
So really what both of you are saying is that corners that played before 1980 would have never saw the field on any team at any level.

Some of these young guys have little background in football and football history, and act like football was just invented in recent decades. They don't realize that great players of the past would mostly be great players today, because they would have grown up with the modern day approach to training and development.

Cover 2. Jeez, zone defense was either cover 2 or cover 3 for as long as I can remember.
