Montana State Bobcats scouting report

This is probably the best cats defense in a very long time. Last time the cats had a team with a top level defense they came into wagris (2021) and performed very well but they offense under McKay went stale. The scariest part about the gris is the passing game but the fast and athletic secondary should be able to play man and run with everyone (the Texas boys are quick and young). DL should have a lot of success. Only thing I could see the defense struggling with is tackling (2023 game) but the unit has been impressive in that category.

Offensively if Lamson can be comfortable and confident the cats will be very successful. I predict the cats to rely on the run early and open up the pass game quick. I’m assuming most gris fans haven’t watched a lot of the cats this year but this is as balanced as the offense has been in a very long time, I might even say our pass game might be better than the run. Everyone knows Taco but 84 (Dane Steel), 1 (Chris Long), 10 (Jabez Woods), and Rocco Lencioni (89) will surprise you as well. The OL is good but not the best in recent years due to injury, transfers, and scrambling around to find the best fit. If Adam and Julius can get consistent runs it will be a LONG day for the gris.

This game really could come down to turnovers, big plays (or mistakes), and finishing drives. It’s damn hard to win in Missoula during the brawl but I think this team is built for it.

Prediction- 37 - 17 cats

Really hope you are very wrong.

Zero chance your secondary can "run with everyone." Hope your "Texas boys" play man all day. KAY will tear them apart. Cats have zero guys who can cover Griz slot receivers...watch carefully on Saturday.

One of the reasons the Cats defense has been so effective is their ability to disguise different coverages. We mostly run zone coverage schemes, with limited blitzing with the goal of keeping everything in front and making the throwing windows as small as possible for the QB. Most of the big plays we've given up in the pass game are when the LB's dont get a good drop to their zones.

Mostly healthy.

Taki Uluilakapa (FS) has been out most of the year. Seth johnson (CB) was out last game not sure if he’ll be back. Paul Brott (DT) is hobbled.

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head.

Brott is definitely hobbled.

Vegan has proven he doesn’t win big games or get his teams up for the challenge. His record proves it.

What does Brott do when he gets to the QB. He has no sacks and 2 TFL. 13 tackles. Did I goof up his stats?

Saying Vigen doesn’t win big games is insane. Been coach a very short time and already been to two national championships and a semi final appearance. You don’t get there without winning big games. You would need to say the same about Hauck since you also lost the NC and lost to the Cats 4 times since returning

I think that was the facetious joke there, since Cats fans constantly say Bobby cannot win big games. You're right, you don't get to the semis or the national title if you cannot win big games in big moments.

I believe we have the better QB, which should give us an edge should it be close down the stretch. I don’t see how we win in a blowout.

I think the key is the running game, we need Gilman to continue to don his Superman outfit and break tackles, extend drives, win the TOP and finish in the end zone. If he does that I think we have a shot to be in the drivers seat down the stretch. If he’s getting stuffed on 1st and 2nd, I think we are in trouble.

Tell me you haven't watched the Cats without telling me. They play almost no man, almost never blitz, and have not had to load the box to stop the run, allowing them to change the picture from pre to post snap in the back end. The 2 keys in the game for the Cats are handling the RPO and that Lamson can settle in and play well. Cats are better on both lines of scrimmage.

Maybe you should be addressing that to MoneyMoney, then? He was the one that said " the fast and athletic secondary should be able to play man and run with everyone (the Texas boys are quick and young)." SoldierGriz just responded to that direct statement.

Look at his record and it proves my point. Overtime games, Dakota’s and opponents at full strength win against MSU. They just do. I posted in another thread about his record. The Cats had a soft path to the natty’s both times. That would include against Griz teams that weren’t that good. Sorry, but they did. When matched against a good opponent he cannot get it done. Bobby? Well, he hasn’t won a natty but he sure wins big games that are close. Many many times he has done that. He could be knocked for his national championship record for sure.

So you think the games between the griz and bobcats weren't big games... good to know.. btw vigens record is the same as haucks 2- 2 in those games
