Good win against Nevada. But…the defense is suspect. Anyone watch and see what is going on? I e watched but can’t quite figure it out.

I actually thought the defense was much better today compared to Thursday against Boise State. Nevada didn’t seem to have the same pace/quality up front so maybe that played a part, but overall I thought we held it together well.

Carolan was having a great game prior to giving up the penalty. Thought Kena Smith played well in her return from injury. I think she’ll be the starter again once she’s back to fitness.

Corner kick defending was also improved (still not where it should be imo) but progress is progress.

I’ve been thinking our outside backs have been a liability this year, but I didn’t think that at all today.

Would love to hear from others, but that’s how I saw it.

I agree with the outside backs. I guess my question is more what changed from last two years? Is it just personnel related? Or just coming together as a team?

Yeah I think it's 100% personnel related. Not taking away from the two incredibly years Flynn and Dvorak had each of the past two seasons... but the "core" of the success came from the four defenders in front of them.

The past few seasons we had cohesion at the back. Charley Boone is now playing professional soccer after being a staple on the backline for years. Allie Larsen was incredible in '23 next to her and Reeve Borseth filled those shoes in '24. With Borseth's injury timeline tbd, I'm not sure what that return looks like.

We also lost arguably a top 3 player on each of the past two seasons teams in Ava Samuelson at outside back. If she was on this year's Griz team, her presence would be felt immensely just based on the new people in the shoes this year.

When Henrikson returned from injury last year, there's a reason she didn't slide into one of the starting CB spots. Being asked to play that position this year is what I think is best for this 2025 team next to Smith (or Carolan until conference), but overall I think this is a reload year in terms of personnel and getting this group to come together.

Personally, I would even be okay with seeing Smith and Carolan as the CB's. Rick slide into the #6 (main holding mid), and let Ditta continue to hunt at a true #8 position in the middle. I think we'll be okay either way by time Gonzaga and Washington State come to town in the middle of the month.

Larsen wasn't on the team in '23, she played her COVID waiver year at NAU.

If Borseth can't play this season, she does have a redshirt available if she chooses to use it.

I'm not a soccer expert by any stretch of the imagination and the little I know about soccer, IMO, the Lady Griz soccer team needs to work on maintaining ball possession and making the right decision and making the easy pass and passing to the open player.

I’d say we are looking just fine! Now we go into conference play!

Big game at NAU tonight! I will be watching. Can't go because I have to work tomorrow. My son who attends NAU is planning on wearing his Griz "jersey" to the match. he is a large human, so if he is there, he won't be difficult to see on the broadcast hahaha

This is a big one. We’ve had our struggles at NAU over the years. Late kickoff too!

Should be an awesome game! Does anyone know if NAU always plays their Thursday games under the lights? I feel like every time the Griz are down there it's a late one!

It will be under the lights. Just my tinfoil hat talking but I wonder if teams are trying to create a competitive advantage since they know Montana has the only facilities in the Big Sky (EWU would be the only other possibility) that are lacking lights.

BTW, Baylor just won @#14 and previously unbeaten Kansas 3-0!

Weber State continuing to look impressive and much improved. They are up 2-0 on EWU with 20 to go.

Lost 2-1. That's a tough one. I guess it's not surprising given all the weird circumstances with this match. I don't think we've lost a conference match in 3 years. Now we're gonna spend the rest of the season playing catch up.
