Notable Player Weight Gains

Pick0621

Well-known member
I may have missed some but these were a few of the bigger weight gains I spotted on the roster:

Monte Gillman - 153 - 162

Ah Yat - 192 - 200

Danny Sirmon - 240 - 255

Torin Jeske - 253 - 271

Colin Amick - 264 - 292

Austin Buehler - 270 - 285

Trevor Steinbach - 290 - 300

Matt Hilden - 278 - 309

Good to see some of our young O linemen add weight as well as Keali'i Ah Yat--hopefully that added muscle, weight helps the O line better dominate the line of scrimmage and Keali'i, who's runs with wild abandon both excite and frighten me when he gets hit and goes flying through the air, stay healthy this year. !!!

28 & 31 lbs for Amick and Hilden is remarkable. 😵 😂. That takes serious effort at that age, especially given their activity level. Those 2 both move well, too. I don't know much about Steinbach, I think hes been dealing w injury. But the other 4 linemen mentioned have a bright future. I liked the sugning of jeske during recruiting... big body, and watched him on Bozemans state tournament basketball team. Moves very well.

Most of us eat until we're full--can you imagine trying to purposely increase your body weight between 10-30 %, maybe even more , and doing so in conjunction with a strength and conditioning program ?

I know there is a methodology for doing this for all football players, especially linemen, and it requires a lot of organization, planning and discipline--when to eat, how much to eat, how many calories, what to eat--protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, supplements, etc., when to eat and when to lift and do other strength and conditioning with S&C Coach Dan Ryan.. ( Do we have a training table for our kids where we feed them ? )

And I am hoping that Coach Ryan and colleagues discuss how to lose this weight after their playing days are over. I met Collin Dow from Billings Senior a couple of times in Missoula and Billings, and off the top of my head, he played OG for us @ 6-5, 310 during Bobby 1.0 about 15-16 years ago. Collin's dad, also a former GRIZ O lineman and whose picture used to be up in the MO Club --" Dowser," maybe still is, died at a relatively young age of a massive heart attack.

A friend of mine from Billings, now a Missoula attorney, that first introduced me to Collin in Missoula @'The MO Club during his playing days, told me that Collin wanted to shed his playing weight relatively quickly after his playing days were over and Collin made this well known ... And about 12-18 months after his GRIZ career ended, I saw and briefly greeted Collin at The Montana Brewing Company, " The Brew Pub," in Downtown Bilkings and just eyeballing him, he looked like his weight was down to 230-245 lbs, and I was very happy to see the new slim him knowing what had happened to his dad. !!!

I hope our football team has access to a dietician, and if not, maybe we should hire one at least part time for not only our football team but all of our GRIZ student athletes !!!

Apparently there’s a cat o lineman who managed to put on 48 pounds in the last year.

Yes, I'd be interested to see how much was muscle mass vs fat, especially considering those that lift regularly have difficulty putting on more than 18lbs muscle mass in one year.

We are talking about notable player weight gains? WTF? The weight gain of players means absolutely nothing unless there are other statistics to go with it. For all we know, the weight gain is all fat. We need to know other statistics such as % bodyfat, circumference of muscles, strength test results, and NFL Draft combine physical tests results.
