New KPAX TV Announcers for Griz

I don’t necessarily know more football than Marty, but I can speak the English language with a fair semblance of impartiality. That gives me two separate points where I’m better than him.
Have you done those things, while 3 different people are talking in your ear? Or when they are saying "Replay of ________ in 3-2-1, and you have to immediately change your train of thought and analyze a clip that you haven't seen and say 3 sentences about it in roughly 6 seconds? Then switch back mid play? Have you been told that a break is coming, and then as you are doing a "Wind down" been told "Drag for time, will requeue" and have to figure out what to say so it doesn't sound like all that is actually going on?... Try it the next time you are watching a game. Mute the sound, and try and call a game. Record yourself, and then go back and listen. Make sure you have someone in the background having a conversation with you (that you can repeat) while talking through the calls.

I am not sticking up for anyone on the broadcast, as I haven't watched them enough to have really any opinion on what they do, or how well they did it... BUT I do take offense to people who say things like "I could do better" that have NEVER actually done it. It's like me watching the PGA tour, and saying "I would have hit that shot better"...

Because you don't have credentials to back up what you say and you would be lying .It's hard to do with a straight face for sure.
I wasn’t the dumb ass who claimed I had any credentials. You were that dumb ass.
So let’s hear it, big mouth.
What are your “credentials”?

Have to agree with Saccat on this one. I've done play by play and color on the radio and between your partner the producer and we usually sat in booth with stadium announcer , spotter and others you must concentrate. Football was at least in a booth, basketball is worse with crowd, band etc.

Only person on this board with any real experience is Sac Cat.

Great points. Look at how much better guys get after doing it awhile. I enjoyed Marty and I though Jay did a good job too. One thing that has to make it even more difficult would be the fact that in college football is that players can now share numbers.

I still keep wondering how they got someone as veteran as Trey Bender - seems like there should be some kind of story there. At the same time my brain is telling me never to look a gift horse in the mouth. (Or as Patrick McManus would say, never sniff a gift fish.) I'm really looking forward to this season.

If the Griz season turns out as I hope, maybe, just maybe the NC game in Frisco could be spiced up with a cameo appearance by Billings native Brent Musburger. If you're gonna dream, dream BIG!

I've never understood how you guys are able to do it at all to be honest.

Compared to other Big Sky and FCS teams broadcasts. Yes. Many of those are really bad.
"Many" might be an understatement. 🤔
I typically scan through several games on Saturday before the Griz hit the air and again when the game is over. One of the worst is NAU, they still use their radio play-by-play guy to simulcast on ESPN plus for all home games. You want to throw things at the TV when that homer gets rolling. 🍎🥥🧱🏈 CAA, SoCon, Southland, UAC, even the MVFC games aren't always that great either. You don't even want to know about the NEC, Patriot, Pioneer and most Ivy League games. :poop:
That's why this is such an upgrade at first glance though because it will potentially be better than a lot more of the games on the Fox and CBS sports networks covering many of the lower ranked FBS teams.
I would say that our guys who everyone is bashing on here aren't that bad if ESPN+ uses them for every game but Bozeman. For that one, we really need to get the kitty 🐱 doing the play-by-play out of that booth. Along with their analyst, I'm tired of them teaming up on Marty or Grady as the sole Griz representative.

I like Jordan, Miles City and eastern MT. I stopped in Jordan a few times during the Freeman days. The bar was hopping. Met reporters and media crew there. The Binion family from Las Vegas used to have a big ranch up towards the lake. Mafia people in revenues to go there to lie low. I was born in Miles City, but grew up until age 12 on the family ranch on Fort Peck reservation. My great grandfather on mom’s side moved to Miles City in 1882. Had a ranch north of Miles City towards Jordan. My great grandparents and grandparents are in the Range Rider Museum hall of fame, or whatever it is. My uncles played for Coach Bob Jauron in the late 40’s. One uncle played in 2d MT Shrine game Jauron’s sons played for Brown and Yale. The oldest played for Brown and was born in Miles City. He and I were delivered by Doctor Howard, a woman who deliverd half the babies in the area for a few decades. Dick Jauron played for Yale and played and coached in the NFL. My mom and aunt went to school and were friends with Maurice Hilleman. The Cats fans know who he is. My mom and aunt were friends with the founder of KOA too. The athletic stadium in Miles City is named after my wife’s dad. My wife and I went to the Bucking Horse Sale this year. My cousin in northeastern MT sold his horses at the Sale for decades. Some good ones. Some NFR ones too. The musician George Winston lived in Miles City early on. Monica Tramel lived in Miles City early on. I think Jordan Tripp will be good.
