BW's new and improved - but generally still worthless guess at the 2025 depth chart (post spring camp)

Seeing that my old one got bumped up and was causing confusion I figured I'd take another stab at an entirely useless and uninformed guess at our depth. With so many transfers there's a lot of wild card spots here and I'm still admitting I'm taking some guesses hence = generally worthless.

Go Griz

QB: Jensen OR Ah Yat / Flowers
RB: Gillman / Rocker Jr / Fonoti
WR: Bridges / Bohanon or Hendrix
WR: Gurnsey / Davis or Toney

TE: Schaefer / Olson OR Roher OR Gale
OT: Panfiloff / Bowen
OT: Matan OR Jeske / Botner OR Steinbach
OG: Brown / Johnson
OG: Freitas / Hilden

DE: Peevy / Mata'afa
DE: Peck OR Detrick / McPherson
DT: Ramos OR Mason / Bailey

Thanks for the effort!

A little part of me is hoping Cutler makes a big jump and gets a lot of time on the field. Would love to see him make a big play in the last game of the year.

I’ve been seeing Ford slated as a starter now a by a couple of people. What’s the update on his progress?

I’m kind of taking a wild ass guess as to where he’ll land. Prior experience was ILB
Have you heard officially(haha) that Ridgeway will be playing S?

Also, how sure are you on the receivers? I’ve heard here that Davis was definitely making some strides. Heard Hendrix was injured and wasn’t sure if it would carry into the fall. What have you heard on Gurnsey? You think he’s ready to start?

Also, will Rockers operation keep him out of fall camp or the regular season any?

I'm about 95% sure I saw Ridgeway playing safety, I'd assume his role mostly will be for ST.

Davis looks awesome but we all know how this staff feels about younger guys, fair or not, they're going to lean to experience. Davis can/should make a splash this season but needs to round out parts of his game, especially blocking / ST duty. Hendrix did get hurt, but I don't think it was major. Gurns was my surprise guy from all of camp, made huge strides.

No clue on Rocker but I'd assume not

That is a pretty solid looking 2 deep. I think the defense should improve. I would hope that with Bailey we would have a solid 0 tech which IMHO is what makes the 3-3-5 so successful.

Ridgeway is playing safety. Davis will be in the mix for big playing time. Gurnsey was one of the most improved players in winter conditioning and spring ball per Bobby. He will be in the mix for big playing time.

None of our receiving corps outside of a few transfers and Deck have much game experience, so they probably won’t get the luxury of going with what’s comfortable all the time, which actually may be a benefit for developing good depth in that group and utilize some of their natural talents.

Bailey looked like he might be another year away from contributing in my opinion. But it was only what I saw in Spring game. Seemed like he got gassed easily. I think Ramos and Mason are the guys at this moment. I was hoping for a Spring portal addition but not sure if that will pan out.

I think the point he’s making is he should be more open to playing younger players rather than just a select few.
Why should Hauck be more open to playing younger players? Most of these young players like receivers come from a high school program where they don't even know how to read coverages, have never been exposed to a playbook more than 2 pages long and aren't used to playing in a no huddle type of offense.
And just because the kid looked pretty good in a spring game where it's a controlled environment and everyone plays, isn't any indication that kid should be getting play time.
I understand it's hard for some of you fans who have never played the game to understand that there's much more to playing time then being able to run fast and looking good in a spring game.
Hauck and his assistants evaluate players on and off the field. First do they understand the concept in the classroom when it's being taught. Do they recognize the coverage being shown and what plays to run to exploit that coverage. The coaches have meetings everyday and often question the kids on what there learning. And if you're the kid who isn't raising his hand to answer or don't have the answer, it doesn't matter how fast you are or how good your hands are because chances are, you won't run the right route or play
Then they bring them on to the field to also evaluate to see if the players are grasping what they're being taught in the classroom. Age has nothing to do with playing time. Hauck plays the kids who have shown both in the classroom and on the field that they deserve it because how they proved it both in the classroom and on the field.
