Griz Tennis destroys Cats

They played extremely well! Always good to kick the shit out of the cats! Unfortunately we’re still gonna be the 3 seed at the conference tournament next week, which means we won’t get a first round bye. That ISU loss a couple weeks ago really bit us in the ass. We’ll play 6 seed Sac State and then if we win we get 2 seed ISU. I’m confident we can beat them on a neutral court but that day of rest would’ve been really nice. All roads lead to NAU though who went undefeated in league play. Maybe Idaho can do us a solid and upset them for us! Regardless, great win today!

Jason Brown wins Coach of the Year! That's the third coach of the year award for the UM Athletic Department joining DeCuire and Citowicki!

A reminder too that the Big Sky Tournament starts tomorrow morning at 9am. The 3 seed Griz will play 6 seed Sac State who we beat 5-2 in Sacramento back in March. There's a link to live scoring that I'll share in the morning. Winner gets 2 seed Idaho State on Saturday.

Here's a link to the live scoring for our first round match against Sac State. Off to a good start in doubles.
And that'll do it! The Griz win 4-0 and advance to tomorrows semis against 2 seed Idaho State. We clinched the doubles point and then got singles wins from Baltz, the Freshmen of the year Duncan McCall, and Fernando Perez who had the most convincing singles win of the day winning 6-3, 6-2. Three matches are still unfinished and I'm not sure if they get to complete those matches or not at the tourney, but if I'm Jason Brown I'm pulling those three off the courts right now and taking them back to the hotel to recover and rest up. Nice win boys! The Griz dropped the regular season match to ISU down in Poky 4-3. It was a very close match and we really didn't play all that well so I do believe we should win tomorrow, but they gotta win the doubles point and get off to a good start in singles. ISU will be fresh tomorrow, but we got matches under our belts, so who does that favor? Time will tell.

Also on the other side of the Bracket, 4 seed Idaho defeats 5 seed Weber State 4-2 in a come from behind win to take on 1 seed NAU tomorrow. Idaho dropped the doubles point but then went on to win 4 out of 5 singles matches with one match still unfinished. I believe the Vandy's are the biggest threat to knocking off NAU and I'm expecting that one to be quite competitive tomorrow morning.

And that'll do it! The Griz dismantle ISU 4-0 and advance into the championship tomorrow morning! Go Griz! Huge win boys! We'll take on the winner of NAU vs. Idaho. NAU currently leads 3-1 and just needs to win one of the remaining three matches going on. All three remaining matches are in a third set and it's coming down to the wire. Vandys need to win all three to advance. Come on Idaho. Battle back!

NAU beats Idaho 4-1 to advance to tomorrow's championship. So it'll be 1 NAU vs. 3 UM for a spot in the NCAA tournament. NAU smoked us 7-0 in Flagstaff. We obviously played really bad but it didn't help that we played and beat nationally ranked Grand Canyon the day before and some guys got injured in the process. We'll have to play our best Tennis of the season to beat these guys, but we can do it. It'll be an absolute war. NAU was undefeated in league play and has been just awesome this year. Hopefully Jason Brown has the guys ready to go tomorrow. It'd be our first title and NCAA tourney appearance since 2014. Big day tomorrow!

Seems like they are playing their best right now when it counts. Should be a good battle

NAU won the doubles point to lead the match 1-0 but the Griz take 4 of the 6 first sets putting us in a good spot coming down the stretch. We gotta get some straight set wins and not let NAU force third sets. Lock in boys!

So awesome! Have the Griz ever won the Big Sky to go to ncaa tourney before
This is only the second time ever. First was 2014. There’s been many teams that have come close but have never pulled it off. Selection show is Monday at 3:30 on NCAA.com where they’ll find out who they play and where they’re going.
