Spring game notes

Hey all here is my spring game notes that mean nothing for how the season will go

-start of with the big thing qbs gave us nothing to show who is better.... ha but let's be honest ah yat played so his injury is ok and he will be the guy, flowers had a moment but than showed youth with two bad throw picks

-Gillman, fonoti, and wortham are leaps above everyone and they should collectively get 50 carries a game :) this may be our ticket to winning game as long as the d is strong and fast

-brooks, deck, and bridges are the wide with the most to see. Surprised by Cameron gurnsey as he got a lot of play and looked good also, didn't see Hendrix play which maybe I missed it but was looking forward to him, another note monte Gillman will make plays for the Griz weather it's this year or next

-Titus the big tight fork tennesse
end looked good on the o-line playing two tight end sets with Schafer

-I thought Jake Mason and mata'fa weee the best from the d-line but overall not impressed with the d-line... need the usc duo to get here

-Micah Harper, loud, and ford looked good in secondary, Harper played alot on the line also

- styles Goodman is young but looked fast and strong at linebacker

-overall happy with the o-line as they seems split with both squads but both squads seems clicking and together

-I didn't watch much with linebackers but the centar did get hurt at the end of the game which seemed like a bad ankle so hopefully that is all it is

-overall the spring game looked like a bunch of dudes working together hard. We don't have the crazy names and stars like we did last year and maybe that plays to our benefit as the depth and everyone working together looked good 👍

- oh also it's a spring game so it was fun to watch football and than break it down and everything he fully different and wrong come central Washington

GO GRIZ

If true then I think we need another qb asap :)

Ah Yat missed more than half of spring ball and I didn’t expect to see him tonight. With him back I think he’ll be our guy come fall camp. I did like what I saw from Jensen, showed me more today than I saw in the practices I hit.

I also think Flowers made some good steps forward. Still raw but I like how he pushes the field.

From afar I am surprised Tim Hauck hasn’t strengthened the safety group this off season with “missle” type players like he was. Is that group a concern this year? Seems like a good selection of cb’s this year, but the local kid doesn’t seem to be the answer at safety?

Regardless of the who ends up at QB, the strength of this team will be the backfield, and with three strong guys there’s no reason we shouldn’t lean on it. But, with the addition of Wortham as well as some up and coming receivers, the TE group with Olson, Schaefer and Titus, there’s a pretty good cast to support anybody back there. Center looks like a toss up at this point, but I think Panfiloff, Brown, Johnson, and Freitas look the part to lock down a bulk of the line with the above TE group.

Really interested to see what the defense looks like come fall. There’s some dudes there and a few guys who could really step up and make an impact. Still some areas of concern as listed above. Really hated seeing an injury in the 4th quarter of a spring game.

It’s always fun to see some of the youth during the spring game, as well as some guys showcase their athleticism even if it’s not at fall game speed. Liked seeing some names like Gurnsey and Reynolds out there again as well as some new fitting ones like Running Rabbit in the backfield.

Coaches were active, though maybe not with the same level of intensity and pressure they brought last year after the trip to Frisco the year before. Had a much different feeling. Will be interesting to see what Fall camp looks like. I’m sure there will be shuffling to make it interesting.

A great night of weather in the stadium and well attended.

I know it's only a spring game that I didn't even watch, but Shaun Rainey did and as I posted earlier, he was excited about Jensen's play and our own article on our spring game begins, " Paced by 142 yards passing and two touchdowns by QB Jake Jensen and another 100-plus yards on the ground ( Twelve of those rushing yards from Jensen ), the Maroon team outdueled the Silver 24-20 in the annual GSA Grizzly Spring Game on a mild Friday evening in Washington-Grizzly Stadium."

It doesn't sound to me that on April 11, Ah Yat is " our guy." It sounds to me that while Ah Yat could be our guy or Jensen could be our guy, we won't know that until Central Washington, possibly not until 2-3 games after that.

Whoever starts come Sept., Jensen played well tonight and a lot of GRIZ fans liked what they saw in him !!!

Not necessary--it will be Jensen or Ah Yat, and if Ah Yat is dinged up and can't go, Flowers.. It's a little late to be bringing someone in now.
Ya except I don’t think either of them are good enough to get the job done. And for the record we brought Cliff in over the Summer. That was in like May or June from what I remember.

Everyone is talking about the QBs, how good are RBs are and the potential of our receivers but all that doesn't matter if our Offensive line doesn't perform. Our Offensive line was horrendous last year. Fife and Ah Yat barely had time to throw and there weren't that many holes for our rbs to run through. A lot of the big plays that came from our running game came because Eli just makes plays when nothing is there. But even then there's only so much Eli can do. We need a great center that can lead the rest of the o line and hopefully this o line coach sticks around for more than a year. All that hype on Pawlak was full of shit. And as of this spring game, our centers couldn't consistently get an accurate and fast snap to our QBs. If our online doesn't perform at a high level then it's going to be the same thing as last year. And that's just the offensive side of the ball.
