USC Transfer QB Jake Jensen Commits

Ah Yat's major issues are not being able to process things at game speed when the bullets are flying.

I just don't agree that the person most suited to help him out there is a guy that literally has never seen D1 bullets fly before.

Also, he was on the team, but you'd be joking if you think he got the same hands-on mentoring and coaching that guys like Caleb Williams got from Riley.

I think Jenkens is a great pickup for us, and he could push to start next season, but I could easily see him not beat out the guy that's already on the team because he has no real experience.
Looks like a good addition. I wish him total success!

I doubt this guy is coming to UM thinking he is going to be the backup.
I’m sure he was told he will compete for an open QB position.
Look AhYat started the last game against SDSU because Bobby knew Fife was off the team.
Bigger question is does AhYat think he deserves to be the starter. If Bobby is telling him it’s an open competition how does that sit with AhYat? Does he move on too? Do we get the kid from EWU as well?

No, Ah Yat started because Bobby believes he is the guy, he was their number 1.

I doubt Mr. Jensen is coming here after being told, " You will not be starting because the sun rises and sets over Keali'i Ah Yat. our chosen one !!!" There is going to be a wide-open QB competition this spring and fall, and that's good for us with the caveat we need to select one starter and make sure QB # 2 sees action in the 3rd and 4th quarters when the game's outcome has been decided already because hopefully we are going to win big !!!

If you believe the Griz struggle to develop QBs in this offense -- and perhaps even see their confidence regularly move in the opposite direction -- you really can't ask for more than to bring in a mature 24?-year-old who is fully formed. If you were greedy, you'd specify he was coached up by Lincoln Riley.

Who knows what Jensen will amount to, but the optics of this are a sorely needed small win for my offseason optimism. I'm hoping for an Aanen Moody-joins-the-basketball-team impact.

I don't think they're telling him that, either. I'm sure they told him what they tell pretty much every player, that he'll have a chance to compete. Same thing they told Fife.

Also, why do you assume Ah Yat has a lot to learn from a guy that has thrown 0 passes in a DI football game? Not saying he doesn't, but Keali'i has much more experience playing in real DI college football games than Jake does. It seems like you're projecting your feelings onto the situation a bit here.
Maybe because this guy has been throwing against real D-1 defenders under pressure from real D-1 linemen and backers in practice? Just a thought.

Hopefully, but maybe the reason he didn't make any impact on the team is because he wasn't very good at doing it? I dunno. I really do hope he comes here and lights it up, I'm just not convinced, like HHB said, that this means they've moved on from their idea that Ah Yat is still the guy.

It sits just like it did with Fife.

Everyone - listen carefully. Every player at every position will have to compete to start. ALL OF THEM -without exception. KAY knows and so do the rest...

No timidity - no weakness.

Why do people type like this? It's alloying as F*@k.
No what's annoying is all the doomer boomers on this site losing their minds over even the slightest bit of adversity. You all said no QB will ever transfer to UM again and here we have a P5 dropdown not even two weeks later. I don't know if this guy is any good but at the very least he was good enough to hang around USC with Lincoln Riley for 2 years. Depth arm at the very least with a QB1 ceiling. Considering how often Ah Yat is hurt I literally don't see how anybody could be complaining about this.

Good questions.

Every year every position should be an open competition. Someone could have a leg up in the competition from time already spent in the program.

QB has been the least of their issues. It's mainly been the Defense for USC that's been holding them back.
I mean, they benched Moss mid-season and then he portaled to Louisville like a week or two ago. I the Rileys shine is wearing off I think. They have been decimated by the portal as well, and are bleeding 5 stars all over the place, not to mention they had basically all their good recruits for the 25 class decommit.
