2025 Transfer Thread/ Portal Offers-- (31) Transfers to UM

Maybe terrible but, it's better than getting an offer from any fcs team. That's the reality of the situation.
I honestly don't think it is. Sagarin had them ranked at 168, well below a lot of FCS schools. Conference USA isn't very good, and they went 3-9 last year. They barely beat SEMO, and they lost some of their games by over 40.

I'm not trying to rag on Fife. I just don't think that playing for NM State is more exciting for a QB than playing in the Big Sky.

I think it's a decent offer, but saying it's better than "an offer from any fcs team" is ludicrous.

Normally I’d agree with you but it’s become pretty apparent he ain’t playing here either. He was w/out a doubt the better option yet coach kept throwing the legacy out there. I’ve always been a “give coach the benefit of the doubt” guy but this just baffles me why Fife wasn’t the starter all year.

It shouldn't.

Oh, I am 100% with you the vast majority of that. I am pretty convinced the staff believed Ah Yat could process a lot more (lots of trips looks this weekend), so they kept going back to him waiting for it to just "click," and it never fully did. Hopefully it does.

I think my point was poorly made. I don't blame Fife for leaving, and I wish him the best. I just think NM State would be a crappy landing spot, lol. If I'm him, I'm really holding out hope for an offer from a team like Davis that may be open to a transfer starter. Unless there is crazy money there, I'd way rather be winning games in the FCS than suffering at NM State for a final year of football. Totally could just be me, though.

Fife should accept any offer he gets. While perhaps justified his confrontation with his head coach during a game was unacceptable. While he is a decent QB the cost benefit wouldn't be there if there is a risk of him going off like that again.

Britt was the first QB in the portal in Bobby 2.0, so saying that his transfer had no impact is probably true since Vidlak and McDowell transferred in '23, but up to that point, only Britt had transferred out

That said, now we have to add Vidlak and McDowell and Fife to Britt--4 QB's in three years. So yeah, I think this history now will scare some, not all, QB's in the portal from considering us !

And a quote Britt gave at the time in 2022 when he entered the portal means maybe more now that it did at the time since 3 more of our QB's have entered the portal: " I just felt I wasn't developing enough as a player in the quarterback room."
I don't want those QBs then, losers hang out with losers. I want winners

Was talking yesterday with a buddy about him going to Davis just to stick it to the Griz coaching staff.
Close to home, solid education, and a winning program with some good pieces in place.
He knows the Griz defensive tendencies, why not?

That would be awesome if Davis was on the Griz schedule.

There will be another college a bit closer looking for a QB next year, and I hear they were disappointed in their backup this year. I'm a little worried that they might come calling

He would be a good fit for their system. Then we could have Cruz and Fife on the revenge tour. Wonderful. Fortunately, I think the Griz win the Brawl next year. Possibly the conference if BH pulls his head out. A tall order.

I had never heard of Cooper Walton. If anything I would say this is a mutually beneficial transfer. Allows him to get playing time elsewhere and gives us another scholarship to offer.

Not sure if Davis will be a good fit. They do graduate their QB but they also graduate their all league RB, top 3 of 4 WR’s, and top 2 TE’s. Not sure on O line but they will be a complete rebuild.

I’m thinking his primary concern will be playing time for his senior year. I’m also guessing he’s gonna wait to see if there’s a better option then NMS…I hope😊.
