The GRIZ Have a Long Way to Go

To match SDSU, NDSU, and MSU in the trenches. These teams play tougher in the trenches. I think the GRIZ OL is closer to getting there than the DL.

This Bizon/ Jack Rabbit game is a SLOBBERKNOCKER!
I agree UM offensive line is about 70% of the others and on the defensive line of Dakotas at about 10%, and 40% of MSU's. Factor in LB's / Secondary and it is JV vs Varsity

I’m just saying…their roster is different too. But we’re less than 12 months removed from being 2-1 against those three, so not sure we have a “long way to go”.
Generally I agree with you but not today. Have you watched our team play this year?? The defense needs a LOT of help. Go watch what UC Davis is doing against EWU, the team we allowed to score against us at will. Davis has only allowed 9 points in the first half.

You do realize that we are one of the top rushing attacks in the country right. You underestimate just how good our OL is.

The GRIZ are a shadow of what they were last year… they are like too little butter spread over too much bread… thin at best!

The offense is legit. Yeah the defense leaves a lot to be desired, but the season ain’t over yet!

On the bright side, the GRIZ are seeing the level they need to get to.

These teams are level higher in physicality and mentality. Fortunately, the GRIZ are capable of that improvement.

Didn’t we beat 2/3 of these teams less than 12 months ago?

I see you point, but the personnel we replaced them with is not the same quality they replaced with. Our 3 front was so good because of Gub (down that stretch he played almost every series which was unbelievable ) and took on two every play with very good LB's filling holes, not so much this year. We may not see another Gub level guy for years and years. A DT getting player of the year in a conference is so hard to do because of stats but opponent coaches saw what he did for the team success. Riley Wilson is still a stud but teams now seem to know he will be the blitzer to scheme against where as last year others LB's could get home as well (Hill specifically). Tirrell and Kaho have each only 1 sack in 7 games. I do see a high ceiling with Otlewski. I also think the loss of Edwards is a major factor in both pass rush and holding the edge. Harris is doing well but both of them on a team makes a huge difference rotationally.

Oline I think we really miss Forbes in many ways. I am also very impressed with MSU line play despite losing 2 studs. They seem to execute so well and playcalling I think is way better than under Houseright/DUI utilizing what their strengths are. Hopefully UM's new guy can get "his guys" in here and have a chance to develop them so we can get away from needing portal guys to fill holes every year.

Agreed. It’s unacceptable the talent drop off that has happened from last year to this year given the resources, tradition, etc. However, there is still a lot of football yet to be played and after last year’s turnaround I will remain optimistic.
