Recruiting ?

How about both MSU and UM are very good programs with very good coaches, campus, facilities etc… and the Bobcats are doing a great job and beat us on a bunch of kids this year. Just like we beat them on some kids last year and especially two years ago. This year is an anomaly.

Also MSU football players are not graduating in engineering. There are about 10 guys who have been there for more than 2 years who are engineering majors. They might try to use it in recruiting, but these guys on the field are not engineers lol.

Opinion post:
The coaching staff wants "we" guys.
If all you care about is what kind of picture the program offers you might not be our guy.
Do some bsc programs offer the opportunity to use the team as a stepping stone to the FBS?
Idaho comes to mind and...?
I think the Griz coaches don't want players who have any intentions of leaving.
I also think some of each of these is a reason we see less Griz players in the NFL.
More we and less me.
I agree with most of that. Thats how we run our program and how we should run our program. But none of that has anything to do with the NFL. NFL teams view guys that have transferred 3 times as red flags. I know firsthand they don’t view it as a positive and “level of competition” is way way less important than you think it is.

Thank you for your detailed answer. I can't remember all but Marshall, Appalachian State, Boise State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, James Madison, Sam Houston State, Western Kentucky seemed to be pretty good teams to me as I can recall. There are more that I am missing that were pretty good also I think.
So what you are saying is Montana is lacking quality recruits because of the FBS which I agree and that the Dakotas take all the good ones in the FCS so we are have to get damm lucky to find any quality players.
Yes

Okay so why not let them post it so we can get more exposure
Nail on head. Kids these days love exposure. They want all the social media attention. It didn’t matter if Bobby likes keeping things secret and “we” vs “me” either adapt or go extinct. He is not adapting as well as he could

I think you are correct on his style but I do not see that style working like it used to other than at academy schools. Bobby wanted to be a special forces guy at one point in life and this method of a football program from top to bottom including recruiting style is as close as he can get to living it. In order to get more of those top recruits “our guy” qualities needs changed in some ways. Or will continue to be the FCS level of an academy vs Oregon/Alabamas in recruiting. Side note: as time goes on keep an eye on how many recruits we offer have academy interested in them as well. In the past it has been very a significant amount. We have also brought in numerous academy prep schoolers over the years.

Griz need to recruit some smash mouth DE, DL and LB.
It would be wonderful to recruit another Biermann, Gubner, Tyrone Holmes or Dante Olson
Why not go after some of the top AA high school seniors at Billings, Glacier, Butte, etc.
And yes I know it takes a couple of years to get the high schoolers coming in to play anywhere near this level.

It is hard to argue against the original points unless you believe that the players who played in the NFL during Bobby 1.0 were because of his connections to Jeff Fisher and not their talent. They still haven't developed a QB yet during 2.0. Ah Yat may break that streak.

I like where you’re going. If we could get a Tim Bush, Blake Horgan, or Caleb McSurdy also, that’d be great too. Throw in a Tru Johnson, Tuff Harris, and a Blaine McElmurry and I think we might be in good shape.

Why i threw in getting some top AA high school seniors is that we know Billings West, Glacier, Capital, on some of the other top AA high schools have outstanding QBs. They also have some outstanding defenses so why not recurit those kids instead of trying to get from the portal or out of state?
If memeory serves me Biermann, Olson, and others were local Montana boys that were fantastic in high school.

Biermann was a Montanan, but Olson was from Oregon if I recall correctly.

Every year this same type of post comes up
And every year I have to explain that recruiting is not a perfect score card.

Numbers mean nothing if you get players that don't buy in or don't have the work ethic you thought.

Would you rather have 10 Montana HS players that never play or never see the playing field til they are seniors?
or
2 Montana HS players that start as sophomores?

If you look at the Griz roster they have many holes to fill next year that an incoming HS player will not fill.
IE the Griz will most likely be deep into the transfer pool.

Just RELAX the Griz coaches are not idiots, but I fear that some of the posters...

I’ve heard from many more parents that the recruiting at MSU is awful. If you’ve heard from 50, I’ve heard from 51+. Just what I’ve heard. That’s how we do this, right?
I've heard from 3 or 4 MSU parents. Not a huge sample. Read my post. You obviously didn't.

Bobby's old-school hard-ass coaching approach is a dying breed that does not generally resonate with this generation's players. For this reason (among others), a natty under this staff is a pipe dream imo.

We've seen on a near weekly basis that we simply can't out talent almost anyone, in spite of FCS being more watered down than ever. The era of the Griz as a dominant force in FCS is a distant memory at this point.
Kirby Smart and Dan Lanning and Curt Cignetti, and Brian Kelly, and Brett Bielemma, and Mike Elko, and Matt Campbell say hello.

You think Nick Saban wasn’t a dictator? You think he was player friendly? You are out of your mind. He recruited only his type of guys and didn’t allow anything to the contrary, no exceptions. Like all great coaches do.

Glaciers QB is going to Boise State or bigger, West’s QB is a good player but a fringe Big Sky talent probably a Frontier guy. Capitals QB is committed to Montana!!! Do you follow this at all??

Also, Glacier and West’s QB’s are JUNIORS not Seniors.

What type of post are you talking about ? Seems when a subject is possibly repeated according to you that post happens every year.
