Early Analysis of Team

My early analysis, not necessarily based on much, other than reading articles, listening to the coach interviews, and seeing a bit of practice. And instinct. And talking to some players and parents, but not getting any big picture info. I know the players are excited and focused. They look to be big, strong and fit. I’m hoping some of the transfers can create even more excited and push/pull the team to greater heights. Seem like great and motivated guys.

I am excited and hopeful, but will have to see the first few games and the qb situation to get a better feeling. All or almost all of the holes seem to have been filed from last year’s departures.

I’m most excited about the offense. A possibility of a great and physical o-line. I like what I’ve heard about the new coach and his coach video from when he was at ND. And Bobby says probably 10 deep. With the multiple terrific running backs, I expect a strong running game. Better than prior years. Run first to set up the pass. Protect the qb.

Experienced and terrific receivers. They finally started to step up later last season, and should be strong this year. And lots of depth. Good ability, hands, and speed.

Lots of TE’s. Big and physical and mobile with Grossman. Match up problems at times for other teams.

The QB’s can throw the ball well and are fairly mobile. Don’t know what the offense will be or how the QB's will be used. Looks like coaches won’t put pressure on the QB’s to do a lot or win games, at least early. Fife has good experience and Ah Yat has some from last year. He had no picks.

The D should be good, but replacing 3 senior backers may take awhile, even with the returners and a good transfer.

Looks like good experience in the secondary and a few good transfers. First-team returner at corner, and Jackson played last year and has very good speed. Looks like 2 talented transfer backups too. Multiple safeties and T. Hauck coaching them.

I like the new co-DC’s. The D is fairly complicated and apparently takes time to learn and to be able to react immediately and play fast. This, with new players, may take some time. The coaches seem to think it may take time for it all to come together. I don’t expect a dominant D early on.

ST's are always good under Hauck. Sounds like kicking and punting will be fine, or better.

The crowd/fans will be great. The stadium will be rocking. Even if some things don’t go well or aren’t topnotch early on, I’m hoping the run game will carry the team.

I’m curious to see how the defensive play calling meshes with one coach calling more of the front six or seven and one with the back end. Will there be any break downs as we shuffle guys in and out?

Like you excited about the offense and depth on this roster. I think we addressed a lot of things in the offseason that could get us closer to where we want to be.

Hoping we see a guy step up and take the leadership role at the QB spot. Can’t help but think of what Dalton could have done with such an offensive group. I don’t think we need his level of play to succeed.

I love and respect Montana fitness and it ALWAYS has been beyond most in the FCS. You do not get that way without hard work.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, because I may be wrong entirely, but my understanding was that they were generally responsible for the different halves of the defense, but they are only calling in one play. They aren't having Cooper call one thing for the front and Hauck for the back end, as we have mutual run and pass responsibilities at times between linebackers and safeties.

My understanding is that each coach's focus is on the front or back, but there is only one actual play caller, and only one play called. I fully may be wrong, though. I guess as I think about it, those are assumptions I made while listening to coaches talking about the dc relationship.

Cooper is focusing on the front end, Hauck the Secondary.

Cooper is calling the plays. Go Griz!

After reading a ton of articles and watching a bunch of interviews, I think our Montana Grizzlies are facing a pretty good Missouri St. team. This isn't an NAIA team or a division 2 team, Missouri St. Is a pretty good team desire what their record was last year.
Of course I hope we roll over them and we win by 40 but I don't think it's going to be a walk in the park . And I can just see fans who don't really understand the game complaining about our team.
We are facing a non conference opponent for the first game of the season, so our offensive playbook and defensive plays will be very vanilla.
Coach Pease and Tim Hauck are intelligent coaches so they won't show a ton of things and will keep things simple. I also think they will rotate players more in these first 4 games, trying to get the 1's and 2's and maybe some 3's some playing time so it doesn't matter who's starting or on the 2 deep roster.
Although we lost Hill, Janacarro and Flink in the middle, I'm looking forward to watching Riley, Cooper and Vai all playing at the same time. Braxton was my favorite player to watch on defense. That kid covered sideline to sideline and was the heart of the defense along with Gunner. But I have no doubt Hauck will put these guys in great spots to make plays.
On offense, I think it will take a little while to get things going but when it does hit it's stride, watch out! Maybe not in this game, but overall we will see more big plays in the passing game. Pease always does a great job at attacking coverages and we will see some big plays by our waffle house receiving core getting wide open.
I also think our offense will be throwing the ball way more than we saw last year. 60-65%pass and 35-40%run. Like I said from the beginning, I think the QB play will be exactly the same as last year. Both QBs will play and we will see who emerges as the starter. Hopefully we get a big lead and Huot can also get in the game to show his stuff.
Special teams should be as good as ever but the one thing I saw that I thought they should change is the holder for fgs unless I misread it. They should have one of the back up QBs holding field goals just in case a bad snap or a broken play.
Other than that, I'm not worried and can't wait to see what the future holds for our GRIZ. I can't wait til October and November's come around because I finally get to come back and watch a home game. I wasn't able to last year, so I can't wait to experience the home crowd and the best fans in all of college football. GO GRIZ!!!!

I am not sure about the pass/run percentages. Personally, I pray to heck you are right. I get the sense Hauck will revert to Bobby ball if the O line is half as good as advertised. I would expect a 55% run or higher given the backs, line and Bobby’s history. That might loosen up as the season goes on and he gets comfortable with a QB. I really hope you are correct and I am way off. The Griz have a ridiculous amount of offensive weapons. So many playmakers to go to. Hard to believe how many and hate to see talent like that not getting the ball. A good problem to have.

That’s right, but if Coop calls a blitz that doesn’t align with the coverage presented by Hauck or the right personal is not in there, seems like we could see some breakdowns early on given that there is a lot of moving parts during a short play clock until all of these guys become more comfortable, especially the transfers. And we better have it flawless by the time WCU comes to town because their offense looks legit.

I’m assuming that they will have packages based on personnel and that there will be specified options that they will build upon throughout the year.

Run the ball + stop the run = playoff victories.

Formula is quite simple.

RUN THE BALL BOBBY!

We have a wingback?

Good overview.

I forgot to paste in my para on the d-line. It will be strong and deep, but obviously won't have Gubner. The 2 recent transfers are good, and starting, and the prior transfers are good too. And the regular recruits. I assume we'll see a lot of rotation. Hayden Harris really came on last year in the last half of season. 6'5, 255. He's going to be a force. I think the group must be almost 10 deep. Certainly 8 for 3 positions.

"On the D-line, senior Hayden Harris is back for his second year as a starting defensive end. He's joined by senior Andres Lehrmann, a Youngstown State transfer, at the other D-end spot and senior Pat Hayden, a Monmouth transfer, at nose tackle. Juniors Noah Kaschmitter and Henry Nuce are listed as backup D-ends and sophomore Jareb Ramos is listed as the second-string nose tackle." And Matai. He was good last year, and mobile. Ramos is 6'4", 285, as is Hayden. And Kashmitter.

Well one thing is for certain.

We won't win a National Championship with Hauck coaching the team. It's weird to have a favorite team and know from the first kick off exactly how far you will go.

Takes the fun out of it for fans

Oline is dogshit. Can’t control a thing. If this unit doesn’t do better, this team is done. To be this close with this team is embarrassing. And if you want to bring in stats to dispute this, you’re a moron. Offense is terrible.

Uh, guess I don’t see that the sky is falling. Just played a MVC team that should end the season in the top 4 for that conference and make the playoffs. Not an easy team. Got a W, found a QB and learned that we have some work to do on defense. I don’t think the Oline is dogshit. Too the contrary, they will be quite good by the end of the season. First game and it wasn’t pretty. Oh, well. They rarely are. Heck, Oregon only beat Idaho by 10 points and they are ranked third in the nation.

Ah Yat needs some serious work… Fife looked alright and the defense was looking slow. Going to be interesting to see when Wilson, Bergen, and Grossman get back as the offense is pretty mediocre without those guys. Need to rely on the run more and need to use the receivers talent.

They're ineligible because they're moving to C-USA next season, but if their QB can stay healthy along either #9 they could win some games in the MVFC

Do you have anything positive say. All you do is complain about everything. It’s the first game of the season. Do you not enjoy Montana football? Sounds like you need to find something you actually enjoy doing or watching.
