Yes, you're correct on the popular kid's comment. I should have clarified that better. It may not make sense, but I wrote it from the perspective of last year's "Popular" kid being Vidlak. I'm sure there was a better way to articulate that, so it made more sense at the outset. I wish each of them the best, and hope they push each other to become better. The Griz win regardless of how it shakes out.

I have no idea if Hauck keeps the competition going into the season or not, to be quite honest. I don't know his thinking on the subject well enough. I think that Fife will emerge as a permanent starter, though. If I had a gun to my head, I would be that happens before the first game and the two do not split starts or reps during the season unless there is an injury.

I'm high on the tape I've seen from Fife. I like Ah Yat, but he is young. My prediction is that we are seeing a lot of "Fife 4 Life" tshirts around Missoula by the end of the year.

I'm still taking credit for calling Clif getting the job last year while they were starting camp, so I'm fully expecting to go back to back in QB battle predictions.

First game will be splitting reps.
The game at UND will be where we will see who is the top QB since UND will have a way better defense the MO State!

I see Fife and AY2.0 splitting reps at first. I was pretty hot on AY initially, but he still seems just a little immature as a starter. Yeah, yeah, I know, he needs time, and I fully believe he'll get a lot more this year and barring anything unfortunate, should be the starter next year, unless someone decides to show up and take the belt away from him.

It's going to be fun to watch the Griz this year. I DO NOT see BH allowing another season to go as long as it did last year resulting in a loss to anyone.
Fife will be here next year also.

I think they'll start out as Ah Yat and Fife splitting reps but, Huot getting a shot later on and taking the job over.
Huot is the one out of the three that really seems to be on an upward trajectory. I don’t know if he gets a shot or not sans injuries, but he’s going to be formidable if he continues on this track.

I see it as fife has a bit more experience and he came here to get This starting job. He was well coached at Fresno and it ms his time to shine.

Does he stay starter, well that will depend on how he does as he will in my mind have the pressure of next option ah yat ready to take over if things go south. I think the leash may be shorter than most years

Overall the qb depth is the best we have ever had and that is such a good thing

Are you basing this impression on anything other than the spring game? Because Ah Yat and Fife are not the front runners simply because they are "popular".
Huot could be the guy waiting in the wings. Nobody really paying attention to him. I think Fife is the guy right now. Ah Yat is a talent and he has some swagger. I won’t count out Huot. I know it is not a popular opinion. Neither was my opinion last year early on about McDowell. Hearing good things about Huot and his attitude in particular. What a major problem to have. Three serviceable QB’s. I get the debate, in the pre-season and a good thread, but QB is NOT going to be an issue this year. It just won’t be.

Half the casual Griz fans I talk to think Huot should be the guy because they watched highlights of the spring game. Not sure how that's "nobody paying attention to him". I also don't think anyone is counting Huot out by simply saying "he's currently behind both Fife and Ah Yat based on practice performance and experience".

I'm not sold on our QBs yet, but I've already talked about that on here. I think we have several guys who all need to make huge strides in the year if we want to replicate the success we had last season. I think Clif brought something to the offense that's going to be very hard to replace, especially from guys that have very limited experience, but I'd love nothing more than to be wrong there.

I mean, Clif had a lot of stops but not much game experience.

Yikes... I'm guessing that's not true. If the front runner is Fife, a QB that has 6 TDs and 9 INTs in his career, and is not that good of a runner... that can't give everyone warm fuzzies. Who knows though, maybe he just needed a different system\program and maybe he'll tear it up for you. That was the plan for Vidlak last year that that didn't work. Time will tell.

Sure, and he grew a lot in the role last season, which is what I said our current guys need to do, as well.

But Clif also made the run game what it was. It was not good when he wasn't in there, and it's the main reason our offense got much better over the end of last year. None of the 3 we have now are anywhere close to as good of a runner as Clif was. That's my primary concern.

Profound. This is the first time I’m hearing about this. Did you come up with this on your own? You’re right, time will tell, and we shall see.

Does anyone remember what was the POLL on last year's QB situation? Was Vidlak the favorite? We had Vidlak , McDowell and Brown. Sorry I put the word poll in caps, but someone spelled it as pole and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a mistake. Hahaha

That's a good point you make.

It's misspelled on purpose. Inside joke that's so old that nobody remembers why anymore, just that we have to spell it that way.

I don't remember if we had a QB pole last year.

Mellott against Griz last season. 4-13. 67 yards. 1 TD and 1 pick. Those are some fancy numbers. 2 picks last season in 91 passes. 6 the prior year. Mellott had 2 picks in 117 passes last season.

I went with Fife given the Hauck disdain for youth at QB. However "freshman mistakes" are made by older QBs as well so whoever successfully moves the O should get the nod. Sussing it all out could make the early season more problematic for those looking for smooth sailing carrying over from last years run.
