We all know how “official” Bobby’s two-deep rosters are, but here is mine.

Lots of talented names, who will be major contributors, did not make this list. Who would you
add/replace?

That's a good looking list. Not much experience at QB, but the other skill positions have a lot of quality depth. Questions on OL are at LT and C. Panfiloff got lots of reps last year at several positions, and I think he had at least one start at LT.

Definitely need some interior DL to step up, but DE looks pretty good. LB looks thin behind the starters. I'm not sure Hustedt is better suited to LB than DE. Barnum got lots of reps on special teams. If Geno Leonard is fully recovered from his injury, he might be in the mix as well - he looked good last (2023) spring. Kind of reminds me of Tyler Flink. Safety is kind of like LB in that the backups got some special teams reps, but not a lot of time outside of games that were out of reach. I thought there was some chatter about Rausch playing CB and Klucewich moving to safety?

One question I have is whether Klimczak could challenge for one of the starting jobs. I’d just be a little surprised if he decided to come for his last year knowing he’s here for depth only.

I’m also curious to see where Hustedt ends up in the fall. He played LB for 3 years at Nebraska before coming here and switching to DE. After a strong 2023 at DE, he spent spring ball at LB. Regardless of what position he ends up playing, it will be hard to keep him off the field.

I also hope Geno is healthy and can contribute this year. He definitely has the Flink missile attitude.

You’re right, during spring ball Rausch played CB and Klucewich played nickel/safety. My understanding is they are playing all over the secondary trying to find a way to get them on the field.

Best case scenario, he learns the entire offense/protection schemes and kicks inside to C allowing Brown to move back to LG.

I completely agree that both will be major contributors. Who do you remove to get them on the two-deep? Rausch & Wilson V?
Based on playing time last year; I suppose Klucewich would have a leg up on Rausch (that is not a shot on Rausch). I don't know Hayden at all and Kaschmitter has had injury issues in the past. I know Detrick is better suited to the outside and has "taken one for the team" to bulk up for the inside; not sure if Lehrmann or Wilson V would get the nod ahead of Detrick. I know they look good on highlight tapes but I suspect that may be why they call them hightlight tapes. ;)

There's no way Rocker jumps ahead of Eli and Nick unless they aren't producing. Rocker will get touches but will be rotating in after Eli and Nick. But the key on offense besides who the QB will be having a center to command our o line. We need a smart center to make correct protection calls and key adjustments to teams blitzing us. If we don't have a good, solid center then it won't matter if we have the best receivers trio in the conference along with the best RBs. Whoever starts at QB, will get the job done with Pease mentoring him. Our success on offense in my opinion rely heavily on how dominant our center and online can be.

I don’t see Rocker passing Eli but passing Nick is conceivable. We are talking about an FBS guy who looked like the best player on the field in the spring game. I’d be surprised if he didn’t get a decent share of the touches.

Wow. This is one of the smartest posts I've ever seen from a griz fan. The Center position is absolutely critical, probably the most important position in terms of how good your offense is going to be. I don't know if you have that high caliber center established yet, or if he is on your roster, but that will be huge. Thankfully the Cats have a phenomenal center..... fingers crossed he doesn't get hurt.

I love when people say, oh he's from the FBS, like that automatically makes him great at the FCS level. I could care less that he's from an FBS school. Yeah he looked pretty good in the 5-10 carries we saw him get in a spring game where everyone plays and 1's, 2's and 3's are all mixed in together. A RB just doesn't come into any program whether it be FBS or FCS and beat out the top 2 RBs in the program because he looked good in a spring game. Nick and Eli were a huge 1-2 combo all last year and both had great and productive years. And unless one of them get hurt or doesn't produce, the coaches aren't going to replace them on the depth chart. Rocker will play, but he won't be part of the starting rotation. Of course we will have to see when next month rolls around.

Also forgot to add this little tidbit about the FBS RB who you think is better than Ostmo already without having played a real down at Montana. The last time the kid ran the ball in a game was 3 years ago in 2021. Didn't touch the rock in 2022 and appeared in 1 game, and didn't play a down in 2023. I'll let you go look up what Nick Ostmo has done for the Griz the last 3 years.

If it’s a competition and the best player will play, I don’t know why a transfer couldn’t beat out a starter. I agree the most likely scenario is Eli/Nick one-two punch. But Rocker’s performance in the spring game certainly didn’t hurt his case for moving past third string if that’s what the coaches decide. I tend to believe Hauck that it’s a competition rather than a coronation in camp.

Gilman, Rocker, and Ostmo. I sure like the sounds of that combo.
I think we have the scariest RB Core in the FCS. No one wants to go up against any of those guys. All of them have power, agility, and are just plain tough SOBs. I think we will be just fine at QB. Ah Yat showed a lot of promise and talent last year and Fife was pretty solid in the Spring Scrimmage. My biggest fear is the D-Line. How the hell do we replace Gub? He was the equivalent of 2 players on the nose. That makes me nervous. I doubt we see many 3 man fronts this year and more 4 and 5 man fronts to make up for Gub.

Yes, a great 3-headed monster, but not one of them could start for the Cats or even be in the top 6 Cat backs.
